March-Florida-Okeechobee-Fishing“Some of the best fishing trips are the ones that you get to celebrate something. Fishing on Lake Okeechobee is always a special moment but when you have a birthday wish and it comes true, it is even more remarkable!

I had the pleasure of fishing with Riley, a young man with a birthday wish. His wish was to explore and fish the beautiful Lake Okeechobee. Riley’s parents, Amy and Doug, made that happen for him. It was an honor to get the chance to show this wonderful family around for a fishing adventure they would not forget.

The fishing was strong with light tackle. Riley was an exceptional fisherman and knew how to put the bass in the boat. He also made sure to document his fishing trip for his YouTube channel. Nothing like spending a day on the water with an angler that loves to fish and wants to learn more about it.

Riley and his family caught over 20 largemouth bass on their fishing trip. The biggest fish weighed in around 3-4 pounds. The action is red hot and is only going to continue to get better in the upcoming weeks.

I am looking forward to getting back out on the water with them!”

My second trip of the day with a long time repeat client was just as good

“As always, spending time on the water with long-time repeat client Jim Robertson was amazing. This man travels from Texas to land Florida largemouth bass multiple times a year. When he does, we always have a great time and catch a number of fish.

March-Florida-Okeechobee-Fishing

Jim is a seasoned angler that loves to throw artificial baits on both bait casters and spinning rods. Working and fishing with light tackle here on Lake Okeechobee is an experience worth exploring. Unfortunately, arthritis in his hands confines him to using a spinning reel for a portion of the day.

One of the best parts of fishing with Jim is that every trip is a new adventure. We were able to get around some outside grass structure and land some beautiful largemouth bass in the 3-4 pound range. Jim was catching fish all trip long, making for a successful day on the water.

Lake Okeechobee largemouth bass pulls harder than any other fish in the country. You can have an absolute blast on your next fishing adventure here in Florida.

Jim had a great time and I am always looking forward to our next trip!” – Captain Mark Shepard

Fishing with Captain Mark Rose out of Belle Glade, FL

“Lake Okeechobee is fishing really well. I had the pleasure of fishing with Paul and Bill. While coming to Florida and enjoying the Florida sunshine, they wanted to catch some largemouth bass. Lake Okeechobee was the perfect place for them especially out of Belle Glade, Florida.

March-Florida-Okeechobee-Fishing-Trip

We spent three days on the water and each day they caught numbers of bass. The average day brought out 15-20 bass to the boat. When fishing Lake Okeechobee, you can catch fish with either or both live bait and artificial lures. By far, the most productive fishing comes from live bait but you can have a blast catching fish with artificial lures as well.

Paul and Bill caught fish on both. The best artificial lures to use was soft-plastic flukes and senkos. As the water temperatures rise, the bite will consistently get better. These guys caught fish up to 3 pounds with no giants in the boat.

All-in-all, everyone on board had a fantastic time on the water and I am looking forward to seeing them back out on the water again soon!” – Captain Mark Rose

Fishing with Captain Mark Shepard

“Some of my favorite fishing trips are the ones with young anglers looking to learn more about bass fishing. My years of experience and becoming a guide has made me love sharing along with my passions with anglers.

I had the opportunity to fish with Brian. He was traveling from Canada looking to explore what Lake Okeechobee had to offer. We fished out of Clewiston, Florida, a hot spot for Okeechobee bass fishing. This young man was an exceptional fisherman and battled some tough conditions.

Brian came out fishing on the backside of a cold front. Right off the bat, he caught several nice fish. This was a full day of fishing with only artificial baits. We were in store for a grind with a ton of great learning lessons in the mix.

As the day progressed, we caught numbers of more largemouth bass. You can tell the fishing is starting to get really good here on Lake Okeechobee!

Brian had a great time fishing with artificial baits. The most productive lures on this trip were the Wow Factor Fishing crankbait, soft plastic worms, and flukes. Slow-moving presentations when the bite slows down is key when looking to cash in on a quality bite.

Looking forward to next time!” – Captain Mark Shepard

Fishing with Captain Mark Rogers out of Okeechobee City, FL

“I had the pleasure of fishing with Pete, who was traveling from Wisconsin to catch some Okeechobee bass. Lake Okeechobee bass fishing was always something that he wanted to do and he loved every moment of fishing on the lake.

It was a beautiful day on the water with perfect conditions. Water temperatures are on the rise which helps the bite after having some cooler weather. The warm sun was an added bonus for Pete who enjoyed the wonderful Florida weather on this trip.

The artificial bite was productive in the early morning and then slowed down as the day went on. Pete was catching male bass with senkos and swimbaits. You could tell that some bigger females were on the way with how these males were acting.

During the early afternoon hours, we switched over to wild-caught live shiners. Pete caught a total of 15 largemouth bass on this fishing trip. Most of the fish were in the 2-4 pound range. Unfortunately, a giant bass got away but that is why they call it fishing.

I am looking forward to having another great day on the water with Pete again in the near future!” – Captain Mark Rogers

Fishing with Captain Mark Rose out of Belle Glade, Florida

“Lake Okeechobee fishing has been amazing this month and is only getting better. It was a great pleasure to fish with Ken and his wife, who was traveling from Pittsburgh, PA looking to enjoy some Florida sunshine. While doing so, getting out on Lake Okeechobee is always a great experience.

March-Okeechobee-Fishing-Trip One of the main goals on this fishing trip was to catch their very first largemouth bass. They spent two days out on the water and had a blast every minute. Slim’s Fish Camp out of Belle Glade, Florida is a great place to be introduced to the amazing fishing here in South Florida.

Ken landed the biggest bass of the trip with a new personal best weighing in at 5.50 pounds. Most of the bass were caught on flukes and senkos. Soft plastics are a great way to get addicted to catching bass here in Florida. The key to landing fish is finding clean water. Once you do, then throw out a watermelon red fluke Senko near the grass structure and hold on.

Ken and his wife enjoyed the beautiful sunny days in the outdoors landing over 15 bass on each trip. I am looking forward to getting them back out on the water in the near future!” – Captain Mark Rose

Fishing with Captain Mark Shepard out of Clewiston, FL:

March-Lake-Okeechobee-Fishing“The bass are everywhere right now and quite active. Some fish are moving off beds while others are preparing beds for this upcoming moon phase. It has been a lot of fun searching for and finding largemouth bass in all stages of the spawn.

I had the pleasure of fishing with Mike and Bob out of Clewiston, Florida. They were traveling from Maryland looking to get out on the water on Lake Okeechobee. There is no better way to soak up the Florida heat and enjoy the outdoors than on a Lake Okeechobee Bass Fishing Trip.

Mixing it up was a great experience for Mike and Bob. We threw topwater baits in the morning around the outside edges. After picking away at a few on artificial baits, they switched over to shiners. The outside edge along grass lines was the most effective spot to land fish. Bob caught the biggest fish weighing in at 3 pounds. They might not have caught a giant largemouth bass but had an absolute blast the whole trip.

Waves of bigger fish are going to start moving in on this next moon phase. Mike and Bob had a great time and I am looking forward to laughing and having fun again with them soon!” – Captain Mark Shepard

Fishing with Captain Mark Rose:

March-Lake-Okeechobee-Fishing “One of my favorite parts about being a fishing guide is showing new people around that have never been on a particular body of water. I had the pleasure of fishing with Gunter and his good friend. They were traveling from Germany looking to explore Lake Okeechobee for the first time. Lake Okeechobee showed up for them providing a trip they won’t forget.

Sunny and breezy weather made for some great fishing conditions. While they enjoyed the weather, Gunter and his good friend caught largemouth bass all trip long. They landed over 15 bass on their fishing trip with the biggest fish weighing in at 6 pounds.

Quality largemouth bass like this one is what you travel to Lake Okeechobee for. You never truly know what is going to bite the end of your line. Wild-caught live shiners were the most effective method to put fish in the boat.

Gunther and his good friend had a fantastic time fishing here in Florida on Lake Okeechobee. I am looking forward to getting back out on the water again!” – Captain Mark Rose

Fishing with Captain Brian Brown for Florida Speck or Crappie:

“During these cooler months of the year, crappie or speck is a fantastic species to come catch. Not only are they delicious but they are fun fish to catch on light tackle. Now is the time to plan those speck or crappie trips when visiting Florida.

I had the pleasure of fishing with Devon, Merrell, Aaron, and Earl. They were traveling from Indiana looking to spend some time here in Florida. While doing so, speck fishing was on the menu. It was an awesome and action-packed morning for this group of guys.

Crappie-March-Lake-Okeechobee-Fishing We met at Garrad’s Bait and Tackle in Okeechobee City, Florida. After that, we took a short ride to the boat ramp. It was not long after getting out on the water that we were on the fish. We caught two keeper speck on the first two drops and then after that, they kept catching them.

When it comes to Crappie or Speck fishing, the best methods to catch them are minnows and jigs. You can have a blast doing both when coming out on a fishing charter with us here at Bass Online. I personally love putting clients on this fish.

Devon, Merrell, Aaron, and Earl caught over 30 crappies on this fishing trip. They could not have been more excited about the outcome. I am looking forward to spending another day on the water with them again in the future!” – Captain Brian Brown

Fishing with Captain Rick Mitchell:

“Every year, anglers from across the United States make annual traditions to come to explore several of our lakes here in Florida. Lake Okeechobee is an annual hotspot for many travelers for not only its pure beauty but exceptional fishing opportunities almost all year round!

I had the pleasure of fishing with Chan, who was traveling from South Carolina. This year, he brought along a group of family and friends. We embarked on a two boat trip for 8 hours of fishing and lunch in between. The best location to enjoy a trip like this in Clewiston, FL as they have a marina on the water where you can get lunch.

Lake Okeechobee came alive on this fishing trip. We caught some big bass on wild-caught live shiners. Chan was amazed at the quality of fish he caught on this trip. The biggest bass caught weighed in at 7 pounds along with a 6 pound, several 5-pound, and 4-pound bass.

When it comes to Lake Okeechobee Bass Fishing, it truly does not get any better than that. Calm and beautiful weather made for the perfect mix to stir up some incredible bass fishing.

I am looking forward to getting back out on the water with Chan again on his next annual fishing trip. They had an absolutely amazing experience on Lake Okeechobee they will never forget!” – Captain Rick Mitchell

The Last Report of this Update with Captain John Larsen:

March-Lake-Okeechobee-Fishing “Large groups are always a fun time to experience a fishery with. Friends from across the globe come to Florida to enjoy what this state has to offer. Lake Okeechobee should be at the top of your list when it comes to getting outdoors here in Florida.

Joe and Caroline brought down a large group of people from Canada. They wanted to enjoy a day on the water catching Florida largemouth bass on Lake Okeechobee. A total of 8 anglers were split between several boats.

All my fellow captains including myself had a blast catching over a dozen largemouth bass each. It was a quick 4-hour morning fish charter with some great action on both live and artificial baits. The main structure of focus was submerged eelgrass. Largemouth use the grass as an ambush point.

The most productive artificial baits on this fishing trip was a fluke in Copperfield color. When you slowly twitch the bait over the grass, the bass would come out of it and blow it up. It was an exciting bite for these anglers.

Everyone on board had a great time fishing with us on Lake Okeechobee. I most certainly had a fantastic time with Joe and Caroline and I am looking forward to our next adventure!” – Captain John Larsen

“Every day that I get to share my passion with a client is special. This trip was a very special one because I got to spend and have the honor to fish with a wonderful family. I had the pleasure of fishing with Jerry and his two sons Ian and Jeremiah. They were 11 and 14 years old and came out to explore Lake Okeechobee out of Clewiston, FL.

Being Florida natives, they wanted to get out on the water and see what Lake Okeechobee can do. Rainy, overcast skies, and funky weather made the fishing conditions quite interesting. Even with these factors, bass fishing was active.

No giants made it to the boat but a lot of quality males were caught. All the action was caught on light tackle and artificial baits. I was impressed with how well these young men were able to cast and fish. There was a lot of quality bass in the 3-4 pound range

Everyone on board had a fantastic time on the water. Jerry made memories that he will never forget. I am looking forward to landing more quality bass with this wonderful family next time!” – Captain Mark Shepard

Fishing with Captain Mark Rogers out of Okeechobee City, Florida:

I had the pleasure of fishing with Rich and his Father. They were traveling from Massachusetts looking to cash in on some bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee. Calm winds allowed for a beautiful morning of fishing. Before finding our spot to set up, I showed them around this amazing fishery.

We anchored up and started catching bass right away. We did not come across any giant fish but the action was steady all trip long. Cool water temperatures made the bite slower than normal but that did not stop the bass from being caught.

Rich and his father caught over 15 largemouth bass on their fishing trip. The biggest bass weighed in at 4.5 pounds. Several other fish in the 2-pound range were caught as well. They both enjoyed spending time together while catching Florida largemouth bass.

I am looking forward to getting the opportunity to fish with this Father and Son duo again in the near future!” – Captain Mark Rogers

Fishing with Captain Joe Gruny out of Okeechobee City, Florida:

Current February Okeechobee Report 3“Some of my favorite trips are the ones that I get to show the client Lake Okeechobee or any fishery for the first time. Lake Okeechobee especially is one that is exceptionally beautiful to show the clients around. Every year and every month this lake changes making it exciting for the clients to explore.

I had the pleasure of fishing with Edward and his three sons during this current February Okeechobee report. They were traveling from North Carolina on vacation and wanted to get out fishing. This was their first time getting out on Lake Okeechobee. They were in search of some big bass but unfortunately, it just was not their day to land one.

Family fishing is not about catching big bass but about spending quality time with each other. We pulled up on this one reed head and spent most of our time catching fish after fish from it. Edward and their sons caught over 15 largemouth bass and landed 4 nice catfish. All the action made for a successful day on the water with the biggest bass weighing over 3 pounds.

I had a blast fishing with Edward and his family and I am looking forward to having the opportunity to do it again!” – Captain Joe Gruny

Fishing with Captain Mark Shepard:

February Lake Okeechobee Fishing 3“Lake Okeechobee, especially out of Clewiston is one of my favorite places to fish in Florida. If you are looking for a great time, especially for quality largemouth bass, this is your destination.

I had the pleasure of fishing with Rick and Ricky. They were traveling from Illinois looking to cash in on some Florida bass fishing. While doing so, Lake Okeechobee was on their mind.

It was a wonderful day on the water and we got them dialed in on the action. A quick 4-hour trip was all they needed to help them land some beautiful largemouth bass. Even though it was a slugfest, sometimes the conditions can really make things more difficult than they have to be.

During this time of year, the wind can really start to pick up. Experienced anglers will always find areas that are more protected than others. I found some spots that really helped Rick and Ricky have a lot of fun.

In their quick 4-hour fishing trip, they caught right around 20 largemouth bass. Most of the fish were in the weight range of 3-4 pounds. Most of these fish were males making way for the females to spawn.

In the next several weeks and months, the spawn should pick up. This is the time of year to catch some big bass on Lake Okeechobee. Rick and Ricky enjoyed their father-son time on the water. I am looking forward to getting them on more fish in the near future!” – Capt Mark Shepard

Fishing with Captain Mark Rogers:

“I had the pleasure of fishing with Joe and his wife. They were traveling from New Mexico looking to explore all that Florida had to offer. Lake Okeechobee bass fishing was something they always wanted to do, so we adventured out of Clewiston, FL for a great day on the water.  February Lake Okeechobee Fishing 1

During these prime months to come fishing, wind can most certainly be a factor. The wind slowly picked up throughout the day of fishing. It shut down the fish early but luckily they cashed in on some quality Florida largemouth bass with wild-caught live shiners, the preferred method to catching big bass.

This was their first time being on Lake Okeechobee and they had a fantastic time exploring. For never fishing Lake Okeechobee, catching 25 largemouth bass was a blast. The biggest fish caught on this trip weighed in at 5.5 pounds. Several other fish caught were in the 2-4 pound range.

I really enjoyed showing them around and getting them on some fish. Joe and his wife had a great time and I am looking forward to seeing them back out on the water again soon!” – Capt Mark Rogers

Fishing with Captain Mark Rose:

“It is always good to get Florida natives out on the water especially this time of year. Many locals and travelers know that this is the time to get on some big bass. Lake Okeechobee is starting to really show its true colors.

I had the pleasure of fishing with Ron and his good friend Dave. They were traveling from Fort Myers looking to cash in on some Lake Okeechobee Bass Fishing. Clewiston was the best location to get the job done for them.

February Lake Okeechobee Fishing 2Ron and Dave explored the lake on a sunny afternoon which really had the bass fired up. Great weather is always a tell-tale sign that the bass will be eating strong. These great friends caught over 15 largemouth bass on their fishing trip with live bait.

The biggest fish caught came to the scale weighing 6 pounds. As well, they caught several other fish in the 3-4 pound range. It was non-stop all trip long and they had a blast. I truly love getting people on quality fish.

I am looking forward to getting them back out on the water again soon!” – Capt Mark Rose

“I had the pleasure of fishing with my long-time repeat clients, Steven and Taylor. Taylor was a young man when he first came out fishing with me on Lake Okeechobee and now is fishing on FSU’s College bass fishing team. We have shared a lot of fantastic memories together as well as caught some big fish together.

Steven and Taylor both are artificial fishermen that love to throw light tackle. This time of year can be fruitful to anglers that want to catch bass with artificial baits. Even in extreme fishing conditions, years of knowledge allowed me to guide these anglers to success.

Heavy winds and cool air made for an interesting day on the water. It was a great adventure exploring all that Clewiston had to offer. The male and female largemouth bass moved in off the main lake giving us the opportunity to cash in on some numbers.

Steven and Taylor caught a lot of fish on their fishing trip. The biggest fish caught on this trip weighed up to 7 pounds. Most of the fish caught were on my Wow Factor Fishing Mark Shepard 2.0 Crankbait in the Mullet Pattern. Also, they caught a number of fish on soft-plastics.

As always, I really enjoyed fishing with Steven and Taylor. I am looking forward to our next adventure soon.

January Clewiston Fishing Report 2The action is red hot and the lake is really starting to fire up. We are super glad to see this happen. Come on down and get your adventure planned, I’d love to show you around!” – Captain Mark Shepard

Just shortly after this fishing trip, Captain Mark Rose explored Clewiston as well!

“Ted came out on a fishing trip out of Clewiston, FL looking to catch some largemouth. He was traveling from Bradenton and loves to explore Lake Okeechobee. I took him out to experience what Clewiston had to offer and he caught some big bass on artificial baits.

When the bass are in transition, you can have a lot of fun catching them on artificial baits. The most productive bait on this trip was a soft-plastic fluke. Ted landed a beautiful 6-pound largemouth slowing working the fluke through the grass. When throwing soft-plastics this time of year, watermelon magic put some fish in the boat.

Sunny and calm conditions helped Ted land over 15 largemouth bass on his quick 4-hour trip. You never know what you will catch when adventuring out on Lake Okeechobee.

Ted had a great time and I am looking forward to fishing with him again in the near future!” – Captain Mark Rose
