About Lake Tohopekaliga Florida
Welcome to West Lake Tohopekaliga, known to the locals as Lake Toho, is a 22,700-acre lake in the City of Kissimmee. Lake Toho comes from the Seminole Indians who lived nearby, meaning “we will gather together here.” Lake Tohopekaliga is one of the most famous trophy bass fishing lakes in the entire country and spectacular, redear sunfish, birdwatching, and wildlife sightseeing.
Discovering Lake Toho
Introduce Lake Tohopekaliga Park at the lake’s north shore. It offers walking trails, barbeques or grills, pavilions, restrooms, covered picnic areas, a splash pad and playground for children, a fishing pier, a miniature lighthouse, picnic pavilions, and extremely lovely vessel ramps and docks and Big Toho Marona, all well maintained by the City of Kissimmee with low fishing pressure for its size.
Named and recognized as “The lakefront park,” it has a scenic walking trail. While sitting on park benches, guests can observe wildlife such as alligators, waterfowl, otters, sunfish, and turtles. The Lake Toho bass population of Florida-strain largemouth bass is the draw for most visitors as the most consistent lake in Orlando Osceola County.
Lake Toho is Legendary
In 2004, Elite Pro Dean Rojas set the Bassmaster record for the heaviest five-bass limit ever caught, right on West Lake Toho. Trophy fishing limit, totaling 45 pounds and two ounces of Florida fish, the Lake Tohopekaliga five fish set a new high that remains unmatched today in professional bass fishing competitions.
Local angler set the unofficial Osceola County Lake Toho bass fishing record for the biggest Toho bass. His big bass tipped the scales just over 16 pounds. The leading woman angler weighed 14 pounds and five ounces of bass on Lake Toho. Lake Toho’s Diverse Ecosystem
Lake Toho is like most Florida lakes, consisting of shallow grass flats, natural bullrush, maidencane, and hydrilla that help to entrench the most significant part of the lake. The local population of wildlife, baitfish, and Lake Toho bass depends on it. In addition to local vegetation, the bottom of Toho improved by allowing extreme drawdowns to the lake’s water level. The St Cloud Canal comes from East Lake Toho and is the main water source feed.

Largemouth Bass Fishing Tips
Anglers targeting gigantic bass fishing for largemouth bass may want to direct their time on the water around the mouth of Shingle Creek, enhanced shorelines east and west of South Port Park, Lanier Point, Goblets Cove, and Browns Point. Offshore hydrilla patches near channel marker 24, Big Grassy Island, and Goblets Cove will also hold many bass on artificial lures or shiners.
Additionally, anglers who find moving water associated with rainfall-runoff should give these areas a cast or two. Both live and artificial baits in the abovementioned areas were utilized very effectively. Golden shiners are the live bait of choice by most anglers, although spinner-baits (white, white/Chartreuse or yellow skirted), lip-less crank-baits (chrome or shad colored), and plastic worms (black, black grape, black/blue, and June bug colored) will account for a fair share of the catches.

Best Times to Fish Lake Toho
You should always factor in weather conditions; the time of day and weather can affect your fishing success. Most of the bass population likes to spawn in February and March. After being shallow during the spawning period, they move away from shallow areas and into the hydrilla and Kissimmee grass throughout the lake. Excellent summer fishing spots include Big Grassy, Lanier Point, and Browns Point. The lake’s northern shoreline has tall grasses, often concealing large bass populations ready to bite topwater baits.
Panfish Fishing Tips
If crappie fishing is your thing, get your fishing boat and hit Canoe Creek in Lake Cypree or Southport Canal. Primetime on Lake Toho is February for crappie; Missouri minnows are best, but long-lining white, green, and yellow jigs around Marker 29. The jigs and minnows can be purchased at any website or fish camps around the lake.
Typically, you will find spawning activity by bluegill, sunfish, and pickerel from May to June in full force in Lake Toho. Anglers targeting sunfish or bluegill should try to schedule time on the water around the new and complete moon phases and concentrate their efforts on fishing areas having sandy bottoms associated with vegetation. Brown’s Point and North Steer Beach are two lake areas that have been produced over the years.
Live bait (crickets and red wigglers) will be the bait of choice by many bluegill anglers, but small artificial jigs (tube lure or curly-tailed) or beetle spins (white or yellow-colored) will also account for some good stringers of fish even on places like Lake Jesup.

Highly Recommend I booked a last minute trip with John Leech and very happy I did! Even in tough fishing conditions and a 100 plus boat tournament happening on the lake he still was able to put us on fish. Had a great time fishing and an even better time talking to John!

With a boat full for novice and first time fishers he helped each person every step of the way. We caught several bass and a few pike and with every catch he offered to take a picture. Great day of Bass Fishing w/ Capt. BILL Goudy on Lake Toho Today, was the second time fishing with Capn. Bill Goudy, both times Bill put me on fish immediately and for the most part the bass continued to bite for us all day. Today we fished Lake Toho near Kissemme FL, and we caught approximately 20-25 fish on my 6 hour trip. My biggest fish of the day was just shy of 6 lbs. If you want a great day of bass fishing, I would heartily recommend Bill Goudy. I know I will be using his services again.

Bill Goudy, both times Bill put me on fish immediately and for the most part the bass continued to bite for us all day. Today we fished Lake Toho near Kissemme FL, and we caught approximately 20-25 fish on my 6 hour trip. My biggest fish of the day was just shy of 6 lbs. If you want a great day of bass fishing, I would heartily recommend Bill Goudy. I know I will be using his services again.

We ended up bringing fewer people than we planned and were reimbursed our funds accordingly (which was a pleasant surprise!) I caught the biggest crappie of my life. The large mouth bass are massive! A morning on Lake Toho Captain Steve provides excellent service! We started off slow. Water was smooth. Steve said we need some wind and when the wind came bam! For the next two and a half hours it was non stop. We caught 24 between 1.5 and 5lbs. His patience with the little ones is amazing. Take the kids. He teaches them well. Grand daughter caught a 5 pounder. We will ask for Captain Steve again on our next trip.

Best fishing experience period! I just recently booked a four hour fishing trip with my dad. We had never gone fresh water fishing so we were a little inexperienced. Its better than working! My brother-in-law and I love Kayak fishing this area so I thought, “let’s see about booking a fishing charter!” I was kind of surprised at how expensive a half-day trip was! This trip was available on Lake Toho for less than most, so we booked it. Bass Online and Lake Toho Guides and Capt. Paul all had great communication. Capt. Paul made sure we had tackle that we preferred and were comfortable with (bait casters for my brother-in-law and spinning rigs for me. It was a beautiful day! We went to all his places but the bass just were not cooperating to bite on what we were throwing. And we through everything! The live bait was the only thing that caught any fish at all and only what you see in the pictures. All in all, it was a pretty OK morning. Paul was an excellent host, the boat and equipment were in very good condition. We would have loved to catch a lot more fish, but I got to see my brother in law catch a couple a really nice largemouths. It was definitely vetter than being at work on a Monday morning!

Capt. Jai was awesome! I was vacationing with my in-laws and needed that "escape" for few a few hours. Not only was Jai very professional, he is very personable and can hold an adult conversation which is what I needed almost as much as catching fish. Fishing was a bit slow but I managed to land 1 hawg! Next trip to Florida I will be booking with Jai again! Thanks!

Great day on Lake Toho! Captain Bill was an awesome guide! Super easy going and personable, and tailored the whole experience to exactly the way I wanted to fish. Caught largemouth, gar, and pickerel. Even got visits from a gator and an osprey! All in all a great day, can’t wait to do it again. Thanks Capt Bill!!

Fun day with an old friend and Capt John Leech My friend Jim and I were fortunate to be assigned to bass fish with Capt John Leech. We were on Lake Togo shortly after 6 a.m.. with a very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful guide! We landed four very nice Bass in the first hour. We lost a few more. Listen to your guide. Fun guy to fish with. Let me do what I wanted which was casting lures. After some convincing, Capt suggested trying shinners. We took a quick boat ride and picked some up and in about 5 minutes, I caught a 5+ lb bass. Captains are great guides and lots of fun stories and great fishing tips. Next time I'm in the area, I will be calling him again.

Man oh man we had a great time Man oh man we had a great time out there on that Pontoon boat fishing. We joked around, had the entire family and 4 teens with us. The captain who helped us onboard was amazing and was there to patiently help with tangled fish lines, broken hooks, and gave us his own fishing tips! Thank goodness for the shaded cover on the pontoon, the ladies loved it. The captain was patient with us, no skills needed for this trip. Best fishing trip ever We hooked up with Capt John Leech and had the best fishing trip of our lives!!! He took us to the hot spots-we caught tons of fish and a few of them were huge-but what really was great was the knowledge he passed on to us and especially my six year old son. He was friendly, kind and a true bass fishing professional. No gimmicks or tricks and he catered to someone who fishes a lot, a six year old and to someone who never fishes. He used the same patience and expertise with each of us. We all can’t stop looking at the pics and talking about what a great experience Capt John provides for us. I will make sure we come back and us him again.

Best fishing trip ever We hooked up with Capt John Leech and had the best fishing trip of our lives!!! He took us to the hot spots-we caught tons of fish and a few of them were huge-but what really was great was the knowledge he passed on to us and especially my six year old son. He was friendly, kind and a true bass fishing professional. No gimmicks or tricks and he catered to someone who fishes a lot, a six year old and to someone who never fishes. He used the same patience and expertise with each of us. We all can’t stop looking at the pics and talking about what a great experience Capt John provides for us. I will make sure we come back and us him again.

First Bass Outing Fishing Experience Capt John was amazing and was very nice. Taught me how to cast a bait caster, which was awesome and I caught a fish over 7lbs. Highly recommend it, even for first-timers!
Begin of October Begin of October I had the opportunity to participate in in a bass fishing trip with Capt Brent. As I had no intention to vist some film studios as the rest of my family I decided to do a fishing trip instead. To summarize the afternoon: I had a blast! The booking process went fine and I've received a call afterwards to clarify the details. Capt Nelson suggested to do the trip on a different lake as the conditions were better there. Shortly afterwards I've got a confirmation mail with the details. At the meeting point I was warmly greeted by... As I was early we had a chance to discuss some specifics. My limited experience and my request to use artificial baits only were not really a challenge for Capt Brent. He took me to some very interesting places and demonstrated& explained the required technique to me. It took me some time to get the hang of it but then the fishes started to take my bait. At some points we both had hooked a fish and exchanged excited comments. It was REALLY like being on a fishing trip with a buddy! Capt Brent is a rather competitive nature and I mean that in the best possible way. He had set his mind to bring me to the fish and despite the wind getting stronger he suceeded. Even with my limited experience I had multiple catches. My impression is that as long as there are some fish he basically can guarantee you to catch some. I was also impressed by his equipment which was to some extend new to me, like the GPS controlled trolling e motor which made the boat hover over a certain spot). I can only recommend such a fishing trip. It was one of my best experiences in Florida and one of my best fishing trips ever!

If you want to catch quality, quantity, and a good ole southern guy that grew up on the lake, he is your guy! We caught 80 2-4 pounders in a couple of days!!

Family Fishing on Lake Toho We booked with Bass Online last week and sure are glad we did. The phone reservation people and process is ok, it helps if you have done some research on the area and really read the website for details and specifics. We had a group of 6 with two teenage boys looking to get on the water, catch fish see alligators and have a great experience. We were set up for a pontoon boat with Captain Steve Niemoeoller who is great. Very professional and organized for setting up the day and covering details. He has a very laid back and comfortable style and personality to keep it low key. We caught a 12+ fish on a short 3-4 hour trip, would have caught a lot more as they were biting and on we were just not great at setting hooks and bringing them in. The wind was really blowing and Captain Steve moved us around to quite spots and kept us catching fish and comfortable. Devin took us to this clean and clear lake for large mouth bass fishing. He was very knowledgeable about fishing as well as local wildlife. We learned some new fishing techniques. We also saw some interesting birds which was an added bonus. We would definitely take this trip again the next time we are in Florida.

Was on a hole before the bait fish arrived and the Egret's/heron's showed-up; the water surface started boiling and it game -on! Using live Shad we couldn't reel them in fast enough. Morning was sensational fishing. Moved to the grass edges and hooked the Shad by the tail and casted into the grass and along the edges. Great results using this method. We caught over 30 fish on this eight (8) hour trip. Fishing got slow in the afternoon because of hot weather. We switched to some artificial worms and some plugs and still some luck. The day was a real adventure. Pick-up some good methods on casting and bait control.

Winter Fishing with Captain John Leech We enjoyed out time with Captain John Leech. He is a knowledgeable Captain. He shares his knowledge of the waters and fish. This was our third year fishing with him in January. Despite the weather at times we have always enjoyed our time on the water with him. We look forward to seeing him again next year. Lake Tohopekaliga has been good to us as well as Lake Conway in 2018. Joanne and I had a great time~156 fish combined on Conway in 2018. This year Joanne caught her biggest ever 7.0 pounder on Tohopekaliga just before the MLF tournament started. Captain John Leech makes your experience worth while. Winter Fishing with Captain John Leech We enjoyed out time with Captain John Leech. He is a knowledgeable Captain. He shares his knowledge of the waters and fish. This was our third year fishing with him in January. Despite the weather at times we have always enjoyed our time on the water with him. We look forward to seeing him again next year. Lake Tohopekaliga has been good to us as well as Lake Conway in 2018. Joanne and I had a great time~156 fish combined on Conway in 2018. This year Joanne caught her biggest ever 7.0 pounder on Tohopekaliga just before the MLF tournament started. Captain John Leech makes your experience worth while. Bass fishing Lake Toho Had a day to fish at Lake Toho with Captain on January 24 ,2019 and a great time! There were thunderstorms early that morning and the fishing wasn't perfect but we still caught 230 plus largemouth bass and Captain got us to the places where we had our best chances. I would definitely do this again next time I am in the Orlando area !

Captain Brent Nelson is Amazing! Captain Brent was the best guide my 15 yr old son and I could have hoped for! He put us on PR fish, educated us on technique, and never uttered a single curse word. Refreshing to find a man this passionate about his profession!!! In fact he was so good we quickly rebooked two days later and it was even better!

Great day on the water. Even though the day started off with a temp. of 40 we still managed to get some real nice large mouths. My hats off to Steve for making it possible. Would not even think twice about going back out with him.

Steve is a true pro in guiding and a great people person so if you want to experience both great fishing and a some southern hospitality, you can ask for him personally when you book your trip.

Lake Toho A friend and I went fishing with Capt Brent yesterday. He took us right to where the fish were biting. Had a great time and caught 28 bass. He was very helpful and I would highly recommend him. We had a great time!

Great Bassin time I have been bass fishing in Colorado and have caught quite a few in my 46 years of life , biggest probably 4+ because they dont get much bigger in this high altitude . I met my dad in Orlando and we booked a 6 hour trip . I told our Captain Brent Nelson I wanted to catch a ten pounder, he couldn't guarantee that and I understood, he did say he would give me the best chance though. Fishing on Lake Toho Went with a friend from South Florida, the guide was very knowledgeable of the lake which I have fished and lived on for many years. He was very helpful and we enjoyed our conversations with him ! Will use him again in the future!

Lake Toho Brent got us on fish right away, my dad is not a fisherman and had the time of his life as Brent showed him the ropes and helped him catch a lot of bass. We will definitely request Brent again and highly recommend him!

Capt. Steve Niemoeller Steve convinced us to go to a different lake to catch fish as the weather was poor, cold front blew in and it was windy. He put us on some great fishing considering weather was not in our favor and we had a blast. Would definitely book again, thanks Capt. Steve.

Grandson lake fishing trip Capt Dumas was a terrific guide, very knowledgeable and personable. His boat was well equipped. We had every thing needed for a successful day, went to where the fish were, but the fish didn't cooperate. We got several good bites but couldn't bring in the fish. My 12 year old grandson was already a skilled fisherman, but I am a novice. Capt Dumas was patient with me and was a good teacher. Poor John Well didn't go exactly as planned. Really wanted a morning trip when it was a little cooler and the fish were biting better. John got sick and that happens. He really went out of his way to get us set up with Steve, and I appreciated that. It just ended up being a really slow & hot afternoon. Great Trip Kip was knowledgeable and very easy to communicate with. He used the wealth of knowledge he has to answer our questions and put us in the right places to catch fish. Even though it was about 95 degrees, he stuck it out with us on our 8 hour trip, and we probably caught more fish than most of the tournament anglers that were fishing Lake Toho that day. Fantastic Day w/ Capt Leech on Lake Toho! Left all the research up to my 14 year old son! Capt Leech was the best! We let him guide us and it was perfect! He called us to confirm 24 hours before the trip and he advised us on what we should be doing! It couldn't have been any better. Good man, great guide w/ a wealth of knowledge not just on Lake Toho but fishing! We spotted an amazing symbol of Freedom! Bald Eagle! Truly couldn't thank you him enough. We can't wait to come back! Challenge now is we're spoiled! We want fish like this at home in Virginia!
Awesome Fishing Trip with Captn Steve Niemoeller We fished on Friday, May 27th, 2016, with Captn Steve Niemoeller on Lake Toho. We left Big Toho Marina about 6am. We had an amazing morning. I have been bass fishing in FL for over twenty years. Captn Steve Niemoeller is the cream of the crop when it comes to guiding for giant largemouth Bass. He has a special gift of finding large bass and getting them to bite. Anyone whom fishes regularly knows that it does not always go your way; however, with Captn Steve you are more than likely going to have a very memorable day. Captain Steve catches fish! Looking forward to my next fishing trip with Captain Steve. Went last year with Family and had a good time. Everyone caught fish and we just had a great overall experience, so looking forward to getting back on Lake Toho with Captain Steve!!!
Lake Toho May, 2016 Originally booked trip for St Johns River but the captain called day before suggesting Lake Toho instead due to the poor bite on the river. My bucket list was to fish anywhere in Florida for the first time so I agreed - no problem at all. I brought my nephew along and requested we use shiners to hopefully ensure he had a fun day catching fish. That he did for sure. The captain was very patient with him while he learned the nuances of bobber fishing with live bait. Me, I was content to just throw a 7.5" plastic worm all day and was pleasantly surprised that most of the big fish were caught on it. My only disappointment with the trip was fishing proximity to the launch ramp. We started the day by motoring 1.3 miles across the bay the some grass and pads. Power Poled down for 3 hours while my nephew fished with his shiners and I fan casted the plastic worm. Actually had a great morning - lots of nice fish in this one area. Next, on the trolling motor for about 75 yards and Power Poled down again for another hour. Hopped over to a bait and tackle shop for a quick bathroom break and then headed back to within 100 yards of the launch ramp where we anchored and fished for another two hours with very little success. The captain offered to turn my 8 hour day into a 6 hour day and I accepted. He did cut the price of the trip to account for this. I just feel like the captain wasn't really into the job on this particular day. I felt he was more interested in fishing for tournament released fish and not burning a little more fuel to go hunt for a better bite. FISHING ON LAKE TOHO Four Brits took a half day off from theme park rides and had a great mornings fishing on Lake Toho, Florida in March 2016. We used the services of Captain Steve Niemoeller, who put us on the fish from the first cast. Total of about 26 bass and a couple of pike (thats the British version). One bass went 8 pounds 5 ozs. Never been bass fishing before, thoroughly enjoyable and made all the better by a great Captain who was a great help to us bass novices. Really recommend the both the fishing experience and Capt Steve.

We caught a lot in the 2-4 pound range with a couple of 5 pounders and one that went 6.32 for big fish of the day. It was an excellent day and John was wonderful company! I Highly recommend Capt. We caught a lot in the 2-4 pound range with a couple of 5 pounders and one that went 6.32 for big fish of the day. It was an excellent day and John was wonderful company! I Highly recommend Capt. John Leech if you are looking for a person who flat knows where they are and how to catch them! By the way this is my second trip to Florida in the past year. I have booked through bassonline.com both times one on Okeechobee and then this trip to Toho. The trips were professional and exactly what I asked for and paid for each time. Book with confidence!

Its better than working! My brother-in-law and I love Kayak fishing this area so I thought, “let’s see about booking a fishing charter!” I was kind of surprised at how expensive a half-day trip was! This trip was available on Lake Toho for less than most, so we booked it. Bass Online and Lake Toho Guides and Capt. Paul all had great communication. Capt. Paul made sure we had tackle that we preferred and were comfortable with (bait casters for my brother-in-law and spinning rigs for me. It was a beautiful day! We went to all his places but the bass just were not cooperating to bite on what we were throwing. And we through everything! The live bait was the only thing that caught any fish at all and only what you see in the pictures. All in all, it was a pretty OK morning. Paul was an excellent host, the boat and equipment were in very good condition. We would have loved to catch a lot more fish, but I got to see my brother in law catch a couple a really nice largemouths. It was definitely vetter than being at work on a Monday morning!
