Frequent Asked Questions
Is this a South Florida Fishing Charter?
Yes, these South Florida fishing guides are all USCG-certified licensed captains who conduct fishing charters in South Florida. Some captain fish freshwater and saltwater, which is carefully outlined on all the captain’s profile pages. Be sure to look over the boat, equipment, and fish species to make sure it alines with your needs.
Are these South Florida fly fishing guides?
Most of the South Florida fishing guides captains do have fly fishing experience, while others do not. But we also have captains that specialize in fly fishing customers. If you are looking to catch a Peacock bass, Snakehead, largemouth bass, and clown knife fish look through the captains for the fly fishing emblem on the captain’s profile page.
How much to tip South Florida fishing guide?
You ever wonder… “How much should I tip?” This is a topic most captains hate to discuss when clients ask of them at the end of a day of fishing. When do customers ask us how much is it proper to tip you? Most South Florida fishing guides usually cringe and give them some story for advice. So to prevent that uncomfortable situation, here are a few tips.
It is vitally important that you feel your guide has worked hard to put you in front of the fish (no matter the conditions) and judge him or her on the effort. Did you learn anything? Did he explain the process of casting, seeing, and hooking fish, etc.? Was it a fun day and an enjoyable experience out on the water?
Most customers tend to judge the quality of the experience given and the effort provided for the day by their gratuity. It’s not uncommon to receive tips of $100 per day. Unfortunately, the opposite happens when those customers just walked off the boat. At the end of the day, it is based on what you can afford, and any South Florida fishing guides that judge you for the tip you provide don’t truly value you as a customer. We can assure you, your business is GREATLY appreciated here either way!
About South Florida Fishing Guides
The opportunities are endless when fishing in South Florida. The canals for peacock bass, the weedy banks for Snakehead, deep holes for Clown Knife fish, and the shallow flats of the Everglades for trophy largemouth bass are just some of the opportunities. Fishing with South Florida fishing guides will yield numerous peacock bass and largemouth. These species are plentiful, so going on a half-day charter will get you great action for the whole family. If everyone is enjoying themselves, extend the trip by an hour or two!
The numerous area around South Florida boasts great convenience and opportunity for anglers. Aside from the great freshwater, there are great offshore species like Mahi Mahi, tuna, grouper, snapper, and amberjack, while fishing inshore for snook, tarpon, redfish, and other sport fish.
South Florida is the mecca of fishing, and you’ll have no trouble finding South Florida fishing guides to take you out. Fishing charters are like a 7-11, there on every corner, so you can’t use that excuse. But the question is, who do you hire? How do you know?
Look for this in a Fishing Guide
Don’t use a booking service; the captain is paying them a commission. Use companies like Bass Online, where we all fish! We’re a group of South Florida fishing guides that have gotten together as a TEAM. Under the best conditions to provide you the customer, with the most satisfactory service in the area that the South Florida fishing industry has ever seen.
With the finest bass fishing guides in South Florida on “the Everglades, Lake Ida, Lake Osborne, Markham Park, Sawgrass, and Miami area for hard fighting Peacock bass and Oscars, you have come to the right place, Florida’s most extensive and #1 rated Guide Service.
We specialize in working with new anglers and experienced bass anglers looking for prime waters and modern techniques. Bass anglers who are out for an authentic, fun learning experience. But what we enjoy the most is getting those first-timers “hooked” on fishing. We provide everything you need for that big day.
Best Practices of a South Florida Fishing Guides
When taking a group of people fishing, the objective is safety first, fun, educate, especially if kids are on board. No, just about fishing, conservation, and the outdoors because they are future fishing guides.
This goal is to catch fish and create an atmosphere of fun and intriguing time on the water. It should not be just about fishing, you should see lots of different fish and wildlife. The ecosystem depends on us promoting conservation, which starts where necessary with catch and release.
When being a South Florida fishing guide, we take the novice, amateur at best, and hard-core anglers and adjust our style and techniques for them. We get anglers that want to target specific species, like the Clown Knife Fish, and that is okay as well.
The Everglades is a hidden gem in South Florida; it is located between Naples and Fort Lauderdale and South of Lake Okeechobee. Then that water flows south into Everglades National Park, where it becomes salty, and you can do sight fishing on the flats for Snook, Red Fish, Tarpon, and Sea Trout.
When you’re ready to embark on your next fishing charter, be sure to contact one of our South Florida fishing guides for their expert advice.
Rules & Regulations
Florida fishing licenses are not included in freshwater charters, but saltwater they are. This is not a choice of the captain but a way for Florida to get additional money for its resources. Making sure you get the proper license is the guide’s job, but actually getting it can only be done by you. Specific regulations are in place, and reputable captains will make sure you’re fishing within the laws of South Florida.
Learning About the Area
As we mentioned before, South Florida is located from Naples to Fort Lauderdale and from Okeechobee South. So that puts Miami, Palm Beach, and Ft Lauderdale in the heart of Florida’s healthiest fishing locations. Because of this, there is plenty of fishing locations. Remember, if it’s posted no fishing, then cast a line!
Fishing is a family activity; there are plenty of fishing lakes, ponds, and canals in the area that can keep them happy and outdoors.
South Florida Fishing Guides Reviews

Trip of a lifetime I had a trip of a lifetime! Captain Bob was a pleasure to spend the day with. I caught loads of fish with his guidance even though the canals had gotten 10 inches of rain in the days prior to my trip. Fishing for peacock bass in the Snapper Creek canal was the best part of my trip to Miami. We don't have those fish in Montana where I'm from and they fight like crazy. Captain Bob was very patient with me as I felt with snags and line issues throughout the day. His 25 plus years of experience were not lost on me as I pulled in bass after bass. I would go back on that trip in a heartbeat and will carry the memories of that day with me always.

Miami area peacock bass fishing I went peacock bass fishing with Captain Kirk We went out and fish the Falls canal area for Peacock Bass was an excellent day. Captain Kirk is a great person and guide. He put us on fish very knowledgeable fun to be around one of the better guys I fished with it’s not the best he was a wonderful guide made our whole day. Call lots of fish I don’t give 10. Very often but I would absolutely give Captain Kirk a 10 had no complaints or faults just was a great all-around guide and experience today. Lots of fish right eligible on personal guide, and a great person would highly recommend him for anybody no matter how much fish and experience you have or how little hill. Hope you catch a lot of fish . Lee

Best Peacock Bass Guide hands down I booked an 8 hour peacock bass fishing trip with bass online. They were very informative about the different places they fish. Because we were staying in Pompano beach they recommended I fish Lake Ida. They hooked me up with Capt. John Larsen for my trip. Capt. John reached out to me to finalize things the day before the trip. He asked questions to see what kind of fish I wanted to target. Once I told him that I wanted to mostly catch peacock bass he let me know the fishing style and what we would be doing. He made recommendations for how much live bait we needed and let me know he would have a cooler full of ice and water. We could bring other drinks and food. I showed up at the ramp and Capt. John was all ready to go. We headed to our first place. I am a bass fisherman so he only needed to explain that we needed to skip the bait under the docks and watch the line. My second cast the line jumped and started to move. I reeled down on the fish and set the hook. The fish did not move and it was like setting the hook on a rock. Then the fish just started to dig. Capt. John let me know to keep him away from the pylons and get him into open water. After a brief solid fight Capt. John netted my fish. A 2 1/2 pound peacock bass. We caught over 30 fish that day and I had the best time. Capt. John used my camera and took some shots of me and then I had him fish and took some shots of him. You need to book a trip with Capt. John Larsen he knows his stuff and puts you on the fish!!!

Excellent service oriented guide I booked three days of Peacock Bass fishing with Captain Tim Nichols out of Fort Lauderdale, FL in Nov., 2021. There were two of us, my adult (not teen) daughter and myself. Despite a passing cold-front, we had a great time. We boated 54 fish, mostly all Peacocks and some of them were over five pounds. We also saw lots of alligators one day which was cool. Capt. Tim is very professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. Unlike some guides I've had, Capt. Tim did not fish. He spent his time keeping the boat in position, netting our fish, and quickly rebating our hooks. He never complained when an errant cast caught a tree. He just motored over and got us unhooked and ready to go again.
The furnished rods and reels worked flawlessly. So did his motors and other equipment. His boat is fast and there is a cooler with ice onboard. He knows the waters and even tells you which areas to focus on. One more thing, he enjoys what he does. I felt like a friend, not a customer. I have no complaints and would use Capt. Tim again, without hesitation. It is my pleasure to give him the highest review - five stars.

Reliable and fun! John was an amazing host! He made our boat ride very fun and his boat was very well kept.. He suggested we meet in the morning instead of in the afternoon because of how hot it can get out for us and the fish. We caught a good amount of fish too! John was also prompt and reliable. If you're looking for a world class top notch service, this is the real deal!

Fishing with Captain Doug My son is an avid bass fisherman (from Texas). I’m not - but wanted to take my son on a trip celebrating finishing high school and off to college in the fall. Capt Doug Kimble was our guide and was fantastic. He helped a total rookie (me) and yet coached my son on some intricacies. Caught a ton of fish while also learning a bunch. Hired him for two days and will hire him again when we go back next spring! …
I was lucky enough to bring in a 5+ lb peacock bass!!! I will be a repeat client and I highly recommend Captain Mike!

A good experience My cousin and I had planned this fishing trip for about 15 years. While we would have liked to have landed more fish, we understand that we have no control over wind speeds and fish dispositions. We fished 2 days, once with Brett Issacson in the glades and once with Bob Miley in the Falls canals. Both these fellas are top-notch—-friendly, knowledgeable. Very accommodating. Would love to fish wifh either captains a yrime

Captain Bill Boliek was awesome! My brother and I went out for a 4hr bass fishing trip. Our captain, Bill, called the night before to let us know that the largemouth bite was a little slow and offered us a Peacock Bass trip instead. We agreed and had a BLAST!! Bill was super personalable and his stories made the trip fun and entertaining. He put us on the fish! He provided all tackle and honestly just made the trip super enjoyable. My brother and I caught 50+ bass each in the 4hr trip. I highly recommend this trip and try to request Bill as your captain!

Ol'Farts fishing trip Hi Joe, Thank you for the kind words, we enjoyed and appreciate your review. As well thank you for your business. The bite was good, and you caught a nice variety of fish. Hope to see you return, until next time from all us and Captain Tim Nichols
Captain Kirk Osborne is amazing! Three of us took a 4 hour peacock trip out of the Falls Mall area. Weather was cold and cloudy. But, Captain Kirk put us on fish and we caught a ton. Had a blast and loved his company. Very knowledgeable and professional. Totally recommend. Booking the trip was super easy and professional. Also got a confirmation call the day before from the Captian.

Amazing fishing!!! We has an amazing time. Our guide was Capt Jose Carbonell, he was friendly, knowledgeable and put us on the fish we wanted to catch immediately. We had an amazing time catching a fish basically every couple minutes. Everything was taken care of by Jose and he help make the fishing easy. We were there for peacock bass and caught a bunch. Many were above the 4lb mark providing long, reel screaming fights. Other highlights were the cichlids and clown knife fish which provided tough fights when they rocket out of the water after being hooked. I would definitely go out with Jose again and would recommend his services to everyone.
Great Peacock Bass fishing experience with Captain Jose on Lake Ida It was a pleasure fishing with Captain Jose. It was our 2nd trip with him and he always delivers. I had my my 14 and 16 year old sons with me and we all caught large Peacock Bass and a couple of Clown Knife Fish...which can jump forward or backwards. Cant wait to book another trip with him again!

Everglades Peacock Bass Ttip. We had a great trip fishing the canals off Alligator Alley. Me and my two teenage sons fished on Fatherâs Day and caught at least 4 Peacocks each, a ton of large mouths, and several other fish. Captain Tim was great. Put us right on them.
Good fishing Experience We just had our repeat fishing guide with Captain Robert Miley and we had a blast catching quality fish once again. We caught a lot on a half day trip and reeled in 3 species of fish. We caught 2 peacock bass that were more than four pounds with the heaviest one weighing at four pounds and eleven ounces. Captain Robert knows where the fish are and is very experienced in getting them to bite. He is always a pleasure to work with. He is professional and patient, which made it a very enjoyable trip. We will definitely book him again the next time we go to Florida.

Peacock Bass Fishing with Captain Bob Miley I booked a trip through bassonline.com as a surprise for my husband....peacock bass fishing was a HUGE bucket list item and in speaking with many guides, this was the only business I was comfortable with since I truly had no idea about this sort of fishing. They helped me decide what to do, when to travel, where to stay so I would be close to the ramp, etc. I cannot say enough good things about Captain Bob Miley. He was so knowledgeable about fishing and he and my husband talked all day. His number one priority was putting us on fish. And thatâs exactly what he did. He had great equipment and was such a great teacher of how to catch these beautiful fish. My husband had the time of his life and we will absolutely be going back to fish with him again. Bassonline.com made it easy to pay online and gave me all the information I needed to ensure we had a great trip!! Canât thank them enough for helping me pull off this surprise!!

Joe Gruny: Consummate Professional with a Big Heart It was to be an outing to the Stick Marsh, but, remarkably, three guides ended up canceling in the space of three hours due to illness. With my scheduled trip less than 12 hours away, Things were looking very dire. Fortunately, Lori at iOutdoor Adventures Florida, worked overtime to connect me with Joe Gunny, who, miraculously, was still available at that late hour. Joe persuaded me to opt for an outing at the Sawgrass Recreation Area, less than a third of the distance to the Stickmarsh. Upon arrival, Joe was utterly unfazed by halting progress from my car to his boat. A stroke had left me with profound left-side weakness, leaving me no choice but to hobble about on a cane. Joe effortlessly helped me into the boat, and we were off! As panicked wading birds took wing ahead of us we motored down the canal, arriving at Joeâs âsecret spot.â While catching and releasing numerous scrappy bass, Joe and I developed a quick rapport. He knew exactly when to switch from topwater lures to weighted worms to maintain consistent action. We swapped stories and learned much about each other. If learned anything about Joe it was that that his passion was to put clients onto as many fish as possible. Man, did he deliver! I look forward to speaking with Joe again!

Fun productive fishing trip. My friend and I had a fun and educational trip. Captain Kirk was very personable and knowledgeable about Lake Ida. He worked hard to find us peacock bass which we had some success.I would certainly recommend Kirk and BassOnLine.
Great Experience! Thank you so much for a wonderful guide (Miley) for my son Calvin today ... as we all know ... no guarantee in fishing and this man did his very very best for my son! Not many people like that left in the world! PS: he did get Peacock Bass:)Thank you Rhonda Gronseth

amazing Captain Kirk as promised was already in the water waiting for us. From beginning to end our day was effortless as Kirk made it fun, informative and simple. We learned a lot and caught so many fish. My boyfriend an avid fisherman also learned a lot about using different types of bait, poles techniques etc. Highly recommend.

Captain Kirk Osbourne was awesome! Great Peacock Bass and Snakeheads Captain Kirk knows his stuff! He realy gave us an education and we learned alot and have fished for peacock for 20 years and I leaned a lot. My 33 year old son has had some health issues and is finally able to go fishing again and Captain Kirk was super patient and very accommodating! Next Time I use a guide it will be with Captain Kirk! Only disappointment was his boat was not named the Enterprise! Bass online made this super easy to book. We just had to show up it was freaking awesome!!!!

Peacock bass fishing We came down to Miami for a friends bachelor party and myself and another guy decided to try and catch some peacock bass. Went out with captain Kirk and he put us on the fish. I'd highly recommend him to anyone. Very knowledgeable and professional. If I go back I'll definitely be doing this again. He helped me catch a fish that has been on my bucket list for years.

Peacock Bass Had an enjoyable time for our first fishing adventure in south Florida. The weather was good and the fishing was too. Our guide seemed knowledgeable when we asked questions. The only thing negative I can say about our trip was our guide seemed a little timid and wasnât much on conversation. The online reservation process was easy and only took a few minutes. I wouldnât hesitate to use them again when in the area.

Peacocks on Lake Ida with Capt. Kirk Osborne Capt Kirk Osborne provided a great trip, he was extremely patient with my 6 and 7 year old boys. He made sure we each caught our first Peacock bass and went above and beyond what I would expect from a guide. Thanks Capt Kirk!
Huge Peacock Bass Bass Online ROCKS !! Fished with Captain Robert Miley at Lake Ida 6/8/18 and caught double figures peacock bass, the two largest 3.5 #, and 4#. Robert Miley is a true professional with years of bass fishing experience. I have fished with him over 20 times the past 3 years and we always catch fish.Going back to Chicago next week but I can't wait to go bass fishing this coming November.Go with Laurie @ Bass Online.

Awesome Experience My wife and I booked a bass trip to the Everglades. Kirk was our guide and he couldnât have been more accommodating. He knew the waters and put us on fish better than we expected. We plan on being return customers! Thank you Kirk for an unforgettable experience!

Peacock Bass Fishing They could have told me before that I needed to come later in the year when water was warm. Spent around $2400 just to come fly to Ft Lauderdale to fish for peacock and our guide was rather rude. We had no other plan so it was not what we expected, we didn't catch many or very big ones either. Learning experience for sure and a expensive one at that.
glade fishing This was a last minute trip as I was in Ft Lauderdale on business and wound up with an extra day, so when I called on Tuesday for a Thursday trip I was pleased that they could accommodate me. It would have been nice if a little more information on how fishing was on the initial call or more timely call back from guide would have been nice, but overall trip was good. I caught as many 1-2 lb. fish as I cared to and wound up quiting a little early (which never happens) but due to time of year and fishing conditions there appeared to be little chance of catching anything bigger than 2 lb. and there are only so many of these mostly pound or less fish one can catch. Would be a great experience for young or beginner fisherman. Saw lots of Alligators!

Captain Kirk Osborne A+ Kirk had me right on the fish in no time and taught me how to catch them. I caught 5 fish in the first hour covering 4 different species. The second day I snagged a 4.5lb, a 5.0lb and a 5.5lb Peacock. I will be back next winter and will request Kirk!

overcharged As I had said to the general manager and guide after the trip. You overcharged me for bait. The bait for the 4 hour trip for myself (I consider myself a pretty good angler so I wasn't wasting bait) was $60 dollars. At first they tried tell me it was $20 a dozen, but I purchased the same bait for $10 dollars a dozen the next day and i'm pretty sure they pay less. I may have used 3 dozen.

Captain Robert Miley is the BEST! My son and I went peacock bass fishing in Miami with Captain Robert Miley on January 1st 2018. I will start by talking about the fishing and then I will talk about Captain Robert Miley. Captain Miley's boat is immaculate and his gear is top notch. He had everything ready for us and he was also early. He knew all the good spots and was obviously very experienced. He went way beyond for us. Recent hurricanes fell a lot of trees in the canals we were fishing in yet that did not deter Captain Miley. He navigated around the trees and debris risking damage to his boat to get my son and I to the best spots. He only had inches literally, but he was so skilled he was able to do it. We caught a good amount of Peacock Bass and my son caught a monster 6 lb peacock bass. I wish I could post a picture of it. If you could see the look on my son's face you would know what I mean. Now about Captain Robert Miley the man. He was kind, gentle, funny and entertaining. He was patient, caring, interested and engaging. If you could see how he treated my son and how he made us feel you would know what I mean. Captain Robert Miley is the man I would love my son to become, the man I would like to be. He is the father I never knew but wish I had. Don't go fishing with Captain Miley just because he is good at fishing. Do go with him because he is one of the most decent human being you will ever meet. He just happens to be good at fishing as well:-)

Highly Recommended We were looking for a very last minute half day trip whilst down in Miami - from the initial phone call to the actual trip itself could not have been smoother - Whilst on the water Capt. Miley was EXCEPTIONALLY patient, accommodating and enjoyable to fish with. He put us right on top of the fish and it was only a short matter of time before we were pulling in doubles - I would highly recommend booking through Bass Online - A++++

Great spot and guideââbut conditions didn't cooperate this time! My family spent Thanksgiving weekend in Naples, Florida. My brother and I booked a trip with Captain Kirk Osborne to catch largemouth bass in the Everglades. However, as the trip got closer, it seems the recent hurricane was still affecting the area, with water still much higher and muddier than normal. We also saw damage, downed trees, and standing water at our hotel. The conditions made it difficult to launch a boat, so Captain Osborne suggested we try Clewiston Lake instead. It was a great spot! Even with high, muddy water, we could tell that this lake has lots of potential to produce bass in numbers and size. We really enjoyed fishing topwater lures over weeds and lilly pads as well as lures running a little deeper. It was fun! Despite the great spot, we caught just a couple of bass during our trip and missed a few others. Captain Osborne sure tried hard and he was a great guide. We really appreciated his efforts. Just uncooperative conditions! So we'll certainly try again someday, either with Captain Osborne at Clewiston or with him trying for Peacock Bass elsewhere in Florida. Thank you Captain Osborne!
