Florida Lake Photos and Lake Picture Albums

Enjoy the Florida lake pictures that contain some of the more than 30,000 lakes that cover a little more than 3 million acres of land. The lakes range from very small to the nation’s largest natural lake in one state, 448,000-acre Lake Okeechobee. The state’s second-largest lake, Lake George, at 46,000 acres, touches the border of north Lake County.

In Polk County are 554 natural freshwater lakes. More than 1,000 named lakes cover 200 square miles, inaptly named Lake County. In Lake County, the Clermont Chain comprises 15 lakes that range from 20 acres to 3,634 acres. Ambitious boaters are navigating the Harris Chain of Lakes, another connecting waterway in Lake County. You can travel to the Atlantic Ocean via the St. Johns River.

Lake Seminole is the third largest Florida lake, also known as the Jim Woodruff Reservoir. Lake Seminole is near the junctures of the Florida, Georgia, and Alabama state lines. The closure of the Jim Woodruff Dam on the Chattahoochee and Flint rivers created this 37,500-acre body of water. The lake is primarily used for hydroelectric power production and recreation. Fourth on the list is Lake Kissimmee in central Florida, just below Walt Disney World. This 35,000-acre recreational lake connects the seventh-largest lake, Lake Tohopekaliga, to the north and Lake Okeechobee to the south through a series of rivers and canals.

Fishing enthusiasts appreciate the Florida lake pictures of the freshwater catches, including bass, blue bream, shellcrackers, black crappie, redear sunfish, stripers, speckled perch, and catfish. More than 250 freshwater fish species in Florida lakes are most edible. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission estimates that more than 74,000 people fish in Polk County lakes yearly. Others enjoy water skiing, wakeboarding, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, swimming, and windsurfing, as well as simply watching the sunrise and set over the water.
