Captain Miley had the blessing to fish with Jim, Rick, and John. They were traveling down to Miami from Des Moines, Iowa, and wanted to experience what Florida Fishing had to offer. While on this fishing charter, they wanted to catch a trophy bass. It was going to be a three-day adventure in the hunt of their dreams.
Many fishermen love to come to throw artificial baits when exploring out Florida Fishing. Fly Fishing is a great, delicate, and very specific technique that these gentlemen wanted to use in order to catch several-quality fish. Florida Peacock Bass can be very finicky and difficult to catch with artificial baits. They also threw jerk baits and topwater baits like the torpedo on this trip. Even though it did not land all our fish, several were landed and they were excited. Live bait will also be the most successful technique in catching these peacock bass.
Jim, Rick, and John caught 10 peacock bass on their first day on the water. The biggest was a trophy weighing 5.5 pounds. Anything over 5 pounds is a trophy peacock bass. The size of that fish is incredible. You have to deploy patience in order to truly land some excellent fish.
On their next trip out, they were playing with different conditions. The sun was shining and the longer they waited the better the fish. They tried to fish for the peacock bass with artificial baits and flies but that was slower than normal. Once they switched over and had patience waiting for that big fish with live bait, it was a game-changer.
John landed a true trophy Florida peacock bass weighing close to 7 pounds. It was truly exciting for John to hook into that fish. Many people or anglers never get to see a bass of that size, especially peacock bass. Miami is the place to visit in order to get the job done.
Their final day on the water was another amazing trip. They were really now on the hunt for even better fish. Artificial, live, and flies were effective. They could not have been more ecstatic to be able to land bass on all three baits.
As we moved around a lot to find the sweet spot, they were able to get to experience what urban Miami fishing is all about. Rick, John, and Jim caught several more quality bass. Most were in the weight range of 2-3 pounds with the best of the day ranging in the 5.5-pound range again. Even though we worked for these fish, it was still a fun day for Captain Miley and the crew.
Jim, Rick, and John were absolutely ecstatic about the action down on Miami Airport Lakes. They never knew how great the freshwater bass fishing could be down here in Miami. Florida Peacock Bass reign supreme and produce an excellent bite and fight when the conditions are great. Captain Miley is looking forward to fishing with these amazing gentlemen again in the future.
