Bass Assassin Soft Plastic Fishing
This archived Lake Okeechobee report follows Steve and his son Hayden on an artificial-lure trip from the Harney Pond side of the lake with Capt. Mark Rose.
The anglers specifically wanted to fish soft plastics. During this historical outing, Bass Assassin baits were part of the presentation mix around Harney Pond vegetation and cover.
The conditions were challenging, but Steve and Hayden still caught about 10 quality largemouth bass, with no fish over 5 pounds.
The lasting lesson is not that one brand is required to catch Lake Okeechobee bass. Soft plastics work because they can be adapted to grass, openings, edges, and changing fish activity. Brand, color, size, and rigging should be chosen around current vegetation, water clarity, and fish position.
This was part of a multi-day trip, which gave the anglers time to adjust if conditions changed on the following day.
