Okeechobee Mat Fishing for Largemouth Bass in Florida

Okeechobee Mat Fishing

Lake Okeechobee is a gorgeous lake to hunt for largemouth bass. The abundance of vegetation provides exceptional habitat for the bass to grow. Come experience an Okeechobee mat fishing trip next time you are visiting the sunshine state!

I had the pleasure of bass fishing with Mike and Ben. They were traveling from Massachusetts this season and wanted to adventure out fishing. Lake Okeechobee was one of their top choices.

This was a two-boat fishing trip. Captain Brian Brown had two other friends. We all fished together and caught several quality largemouth bass. The fishing conditions were excellent and we had a fantastic time on the water.

Belle Glade was our fishing destination. It has some of the cleanest water on the lake which helped produce a great bite. Water temperatures were at 78 degrees on this fishing trip. We focused mainly on mats that had bass underneath them.

Wild-caught live shiners were the most effective bait to catch the largemouth bass. Each boat had over 20 bass weighing up to 4.5 pounds. We are looking forward to fishing with this awesome group again in the future!
