May Family Okeechobee Fishing
This archived May Lake Okeechobee report preserves three family and small-group outings with Captain Brian Brown from different sides of the lake.
Clewiston Family Trip
Sean, Amanda, and Ronny fished a six-hour trip from Clewiston. Wild-caught live shiners were the primary presentation. After several moves, Capt. Brian located an area holding quality largemouth bass, with most fish in the 2- to 3-pound range.
Okeechobee City Trip
Shortly afterward, Glenn and Tommy fished from Okeechobee City on the North End. They used live shiners and moved until they found a productive concentration of fish. The group caught more than 15 largemouth bass, including one around 5 pounds.
Belle Glade Morning Trip
A third outing with Teddy started from the Belle Glade side of the lake near Slims Fish Camp. The four-hour trip was slower than the previous outings, but it still provided a useful contrast: even during the same month, one side of Lake Okeechobee can fish very differently from another.
The durable lesson from all three historical trips is that May fishing on Lake Okeechobee should not be reduced to one “post-spawn pattern.” Water level, vegetation, weather, wind, and fish location can change the bite from Clewiston to Okeechobee City to Belle Glade.
