John and his son Shay were looking to catch some Miami Peacock Bass. They were traveling to South Florida on vacation and heard the entire rave about fishing these exotics. Miami is the best location to do it. John was traveling from Ohio and need a break from construction. Shay is a Nurse in Ohio and was looking also for some time away.

One of their goals was to catch peacock bass on artificial baits. When the water is high, it can get very difficult to get the job done. All the rain from these summer months increases the water levels which allows the peacock bass to go super deep in the water column.

Even though the conditions were not ideal, John and Jay managed to catch over 10 nice peacock bass. They did not land any trophies but will be back for more action in this urban canal system. Jerk bait and topwater are the most effective baits when fishing for peacock bass with artificial.

One of the best parts about fishing in South Florida and more specifically Miami is the abundant wildlife. They were able to experience Egyptian Geese, Blue Macaws, and an Endangered Wild American Crocodile. You don’t get to see these things on a daily basis especially the croc. All these things are added incentives to come fishing here in South Florida.

Another fantastic Florida peacock bass fishing destination is the Lake Ida Chain of Lakes in Delray Beach. Palm Beach County has excellent areas where you can target the peacock bass. Sandy, a long-time customer of Captain Miley’s came out fishing on the chain. They went out for a 6-hour fishing trip looking to catch some quality bass.

Sandy is going through some medical issues as of current and really enjoyed the time spent on the chain. Not only was it a beautiful day but he got to catch two quality trophy peacock bass weighing in the 5-pound class. He also caught about 10 other quality bass to top it off. Water temperatures were hovering right around 84 degrees on this fishing trip.

Rain and storms were rolling in and they got off the water just in time. Peacock bass fishing on Lake Ida is incredible. Sandy is on his way back to Chicago and is looking forward to his next adventure in South Florida.
