Castaways on the River
This is Capt Steve with the fishing report for the St Johns River.
The St. Johns River is a fantastic fishery that continues to produce quality fish daily. If you ever come to this part of North Florida, you must check out Castaways on the River. We left out of this beautiful hotel resort today on a Castaways on the River Largemouth Bass Fishing North Florida Adventure.
David traveled from the winter-locked state of Virginia to embark on a Fishing Adventure. We had a foggy start to the day, but that soon lifted, and the fishing began.
We ran around a bit until we found the fish. We ran shiners up along the seawall to see if we could produce anything. David also wanted to throw some artificial bait, but we could not get anything to bite.
David had never fished with live bait before and was nervous about the action of the shiner. Shiners love to run where they think it is safe. They love to get deep under the mats. It would be best if you let them travel underneath because that is where the bass lies. When that shiner gets under there and starts to struggle, the big bass goes crazy. Either they get eaten or eventually come out from underneath, especially if a big bass follows or lurks in the shadows.
What a great day that went by fast. We did not pile them into the boat but caught a few quality fish. A little over half a dozen were caught. The best one was right around five and ½ pounds.
I can’t wait to fish with David again. He loved the experience so much that he booked another trip the next day with Captain Kip Grunloh since I was already busy. I hope they have a great day; they are in good hands.
