Discovering Lake Okeechobee Fishing while Traveling from Lousiana

Discovering Lake Okeechobee Fishing Florida Fishing is a great way to get outside and catch the fish of a lifetime.

Discovering Lake Okeechobee Fishing

This archived Lake Okeechobee report follows Captain Coby Esponge and his wife Tina on a first-visit trip with Captain Brian Brown.

Coby, a fishing captain from Louisiana, wanted to experience how Lake Okeechobee compared with the waters he fishes back home.

The day started on the North End, where Tina caught a largemouth bass around 5 pounds. Later, the group moved down the west side of the lake toward Harney Pond.

One of the more interesting parts of the trip was the captain-to-captain conversation. Coby’s home fishery focuses on redfish and trout, so the day became as much about comparing fisheries and techniques as it was about the catch.

The lasting value of this report is the first-visit and cross-fishery perspective. Current Lake Okeechobee conditions can change quickly, so anglers should not use an old trip result as a forecast.

For current west-side and Harney Pond context, use the Lakeport fishing page and Harney Pond fishing guide.
