Fishing Lake Panasoffkee
Lake Panasoffkee is a 4,460-acre Fish Management Area in Sumter County. The FWC lake forecast describes a spring-fed, generally shallow lake where depths seldom exceed four feet. Largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish (shellcracker) and black crappie are the main targets. Dense vegetation and low water can affect navigation, so check the latest levels before launching.

How to fish Lake Panasoffkee
The original local fishing account notes eelgrass beds, threadfin shad and schooling bass. Around vegetation openings, soft plastics, shallow-running crankbaits, spinnerbaits or a jerk worm can be useful. FWC currently recommends soft plastics in open holes of eelgrass and deeper pockets for summer bass, with white or watermelon colors among local choices. Fish position changes with clarity, water level and season; avoid relying on a fixed hot spot.
For bluegill and shellcracker, look for shallow beds in clear water without motoring over them. The original notes suggest crickets or grass shrimp around eelgrass. FWC reports strong summer panfish opportunity and recommends anchoring off a visible bed, then fishing a worm near bottom. Crappie are also listed by FWC, but their locations shift with water temperature and cover.
Access and the Withlacoochee connection
FWC lists a public ramp on the Outlet River west of the lake along County Road 470. The waterway links toward the Withlacoochee River; launch and navigation conditions can differ between lake, outlet and river. Confirm the ramp status, vegetation and current water levels with the managing agencies. Lake Panasoffkee Wildlife Management Area has separate land access and seasonal activity rules; its shoreline is not a substitute for the boat ramp. See the FWC WMA page for current visiting information.
License, seasons and guided fishing
Fishing is possible year-round, but summer bass can be more difficult in shallow hot water while panfish opportunities can improve. Check the current Florida freshwater rules, license requirements and Fish Management Area notices before fishing. Browse Lake Panasoffkee guides and confirm the precise meeting point, target species and trip coverage with the captain before booking.
