Lake Tohopekaliga is located in Kissimmee, FL. Right now, this fishery is one of the most productive to experience. Our local experts, especially Captain Steve Niemoeller, can get you around some beautiful bass.
Bass fishing in Central FL is a lot of fun. It is the perfect place to introduce family members to the great outdoors. Largemouth bass is the target species and grows quite large in Kissimmee, FL. Every trip can land you a trophy bass that you will never forget.
In the next several months, our season begins. Our season is the time when largemouth bass begins to spawn. When this occurs, males come off the main lake first. They prep the beds for the females to move in. When the females move in, they begin to feed heavily. This is a good time to cash in on big bass.
After fighting and catching them with conservation in mind, a quick picture with a release is always the best. Let that beautiful big bass go back to where she was.
The best time to catch bass of this caliber is from January through April. If you are looking strictly for big bass, plan your trips around the prime moon phases of each of these months. Largemouth bass may feed at night but the moon tells them when to spawn, along with many other factors.
Currently, the fishing has been fantastic. We have not seen any giant fish begin to be caught quite yet. Males are roaming around and feeding strong, though. It is a good sign of what is to come.
Below, you will watch a wonderful family explore Lake Toho. They wanted to get out and do family Lake Toho bass fishing while visiting Kissimmee, FL.
Family Bass Fishing on a Pontoon Boat with Captain Steve Niemoeller:
“I had the pleasure of fishing with Leo, his brother Vic, their Mom, and good family friend Charlie. They were traveling from Bloomington, Indiana, close to where I grew up. It was neat to have this in common with this family. Leo’s Mom lives in Orlando, and they were coming to visit!
Leo was a high school fisherman looking to catch some Florida bass. He had an absolute blast catching numbers of largemouth bass. One of my favorite parts of this trip was watching his face light up when the fish made it to the net.
After losing several bites due to the bass being picky, Leo gave the fish more time. As a result, he landed even more bass on this trip. It was in the last moments that he caught his biggest bass.
Vic landed some nice bass as well on this fishing trip. He also caught a chain pickerel and put up a nice little fight. This young man had a great time helping out and catching fish.
All-in-all, this family caught over 30 Florida largemouth bass on this trip. The biggest bass was caught by Leo, weighing in at 3.24 pounds. A nice breeze and sunny skies made for a great day on the water.
Everyone had a fun time while pontoon vessel fishing, and I am looking forward to seeing them back on the water soon!” – Captain Steve Niemoeller

Fishing with Captain Brent Nelson
“Meet Brian and his good friend David. I had the pleasure of fishing with these two great friends traveling from Ohio and Washington, DC. While coming to Kissimmee, FL, on vacation, they wanted to go out bass fishing.
It was a quick 4-hour bass fishing charter on Lake Toho. The trip was split between wild-caught live shiners and artificial baits. The action was strong with both methods.
Brian and David had a lot of fun catching bass all trip long. They caught 27 largemouths in their quick 4-hour trip. The most productive artificial baits were chatter baits, zoom trick worms, and senkos.
The biggest bass caught on this charter weighed in at 6.70 pounds. It was a beautiful fish for this time of year. Windy points on the main lake pushed bait and attracted the fish.
After finding these points and the hydrilla around them, we put some fish in the boat. The bite was fast and furious from this point. Great times and views from the early morning skies made the trip complete.
I am looking forward to fishing with Brian and David again soon!” – Captain Brent Nelson
Fishing with Captain John Leech
“You know, when you are a captain, and on the water often, you fail to sit back and enjoy where you are. I had the pleasure of fishing with a good friend, Captain Bill Goudy Jr. He was traveling and services the Winter Haven Chain along with other Central Florida fisheries.
We were getting out on Lake Toho to check out some new spots and catch some bass. Luckily, the bass was schooled up, and we found them. It is always nice to find several patches of fish when out searching.
Grass beds and points are good indicators of where the bass are located. Wild-caught shiners are incredibly effective for catching bass all year long.
Captain Bill and I both had fun reeling in fish, one thing we don’t get to do often. The biggest bass caught on this fishing trip weighed in at 4.5 pounds.
Can’t wait to get back out on the Lake again with Captain Bill!” – Capt John Leech
