Lake Dorr

Lake Dorr is a large public lake in Lake County, Florida, within the Ocala National Forest. The Lake County Water Atlas lists the lake at approximately 1,722 acres; federal recreation material commonly describes it at about 1,760 acres. The lake’s dark, tannin-stained water and forested shoreline give it a very different character from the more developed Central Florida chains.

Lake Dorr supports largemouth bass, black crappie and panfish such as bluegill and redear sunfish. Recreation.gov specifically highlights bass, crappie and panfish as popular fishing targets.

BassOnline’s long-running Lake Dorr notes describe a simple two-part bass approach that remains useful as a starting point: work topwater lures early in the morning, then slow down with Carolina-rigged soft plastics as the day progresses. The lake’s clear-to-tannic conditions can also make light tackle and quieter presentations productive, especially when fishing shoreline cover and depth changes.

Lake Dorr Boat Access, Day Use and Camping

The Lake Dorr Recreation Area on the northwest shore provides the main public recreation access, including a boat ramp, day-use area, picnic facilities and campground. Recreation.gov describes the campground as suitable for tents, campers and RVs and confirms fishing and boating access from the recreation area.

A separate Lake Dorr Cabin sits on the south shore. That cabin has private guest facilities, but its current Recreation.gov notice states that the cabin boat ramp is unsafe for trailer launches and is for kayak, canoe and stand-up paddleboard use only. Anglers towing a fishing boat should not treat the cabin ramp as a second general-purpose trailer launch.
