Conway Chain of Lakes

Conway Chain of Lakes Conway Chain of Lakes – Has four interconnected pools or lakes (east, west, middle and south) in the Disney or South Orlando area that are collectively referred to as Lake Conway or the Conway change of lakes. The larger of the lakes, has only two public boat ramps is located off Hoffner Avenue, two blocks east of Orange Avenue (SR 527). Like the Butler Chain, public bank access is, for all practical purposes, non-existent. The chain has nearly 1,800 acres of clear water and hard sand bottom, with beds of peppergrass, eelgrass and hydrilla scattered offshore. Largemouth bass fishing is good in every season, even summer when the bass are often schooling on shad in the open water. One of Conway’s “claims to fame” is its schooling bass. In fact, schooling activity often seems to be best during pre cold front conditions, and summer feeds with 10 to 15mph winds. Schooling bass can be found generally by just watching for surface activity or by watching birds feeding. Most of the schooling will happen in offshore areas, but points with deep water access are also great areas. Jigging spoons, topwater lures, soft jerkbaits and white spinnerbaits are some of the best choices to catch these schooling bass; however, it is important to remain flexible, because as all bass fishing goes, what’s worked today will often be ignored tomorrow.

In a few hours during the morning running around the Conway Chain of Lakes you will notice the lakes are very clean, which dictates Fluorocarbon lines. depending on the time of year you can spent most of the time on the Lakes, especially Conway in deeper waters. This is one of Central Florida’s best top water lakes and a great place to practice techniques like the drop shot rig. The Drop shot technique is not common practice in Central Florida or Florida in general, but this is a great place to build confidence in using it. was working good first thing in the morning set up over a 22 foot hole, as the bass were stacked up in it. As mentioned above, schooling activity is very strong in most early mornings, and it has been known schooling can continue when till 11am. Spook type baits work great for picking them off on the surface, besides is there anything more fun then that!

With all the personal watercraft this is not the best location in Central Florida to fish on the weekends. It has a good ramp on the chain to launch, but one boat at a time and has limited parking. Conway Chain of Lakes Overview as mentioned above, Lake Conway is made up of four inter connecting lakes which is typically called the Conway Chain. Consisting of East, West, Middle and South Conway. This chain of lakes is located in South Orlando about 10 minutes from the Orlando International Airport and about 20 minutes from Walt Disney World. Lake Conway offers excellent bass fishing opportunities year round, and also offers great crappie fishing.
