Fishing with Captain John Leech
“Lake Toho is a famous lake known for its bass fishing. Every year, the lake gets a lot of publicity from local and national tournaments. When the tournaments come, it is best to stay off the water until the afternoon when all the boats have finished fishing. Luckily, all tournaments use artificial lures and most of our trips are done with live bait.
I had the pleasure and opportunity to fish with Ethan and Mike. While exploring what Central Florida had to offer, getting out on Lake Toho was a must. This big beautiful lake has some big bass that can be caught almost all year round. Great weather promoted some great fishing that they surely won’t forget.
Ethan and Mike capitalized a strong bite on their quick 4-hour fishing adventure. The biggest bass caught on this trip weighed in at 6 pounds, which was a giant largemouth bass. You can expect catches like this during this time of year. Larger females are spawning and in post-spawn ready to either protect their bed or gorge on bait.
These guys had an awesome trip and will cherish these fishing memories. I am looking forward to getting back out on the water again with them in the future!” – Captain John Leech
Fishing with Captain Steve Niemoeller
“Florida bass fishing is best done with live bait. Most anglers when it comes to fishing for largemouth bass, don’t associate live bait with it. When you come to Florida, using live bait can produce the results and actions you want. Watching a big bass blow a shiner out of the water is a thrill you will never forget!
I had the pleasure of fishing with Justin and his brother Brandon. They were given a bass fishing trip as a present and went out while they were here in Central Florida. Lake Toho Bass Fishing was the perfect way to soak in the Florida sun and get outdoors.
This was a quick 6-hour fishing trip. Justin and Brandon never had the chance to fish with wild-caught live shiners. This was their first time fishing with them and they had a great time. They caught over 20 largemouth bass on their trip with the biggest weighing right around 5 pounds. As well, several fish weighed in at 2-3 pounds.
The wind was blowing which kept the bite strong but also pushed us to find some protected areas. Justin and Brandon will be back for more action in the near future and I am looking forward to our next fishing trip!” – Captain Steve Niemoeller
“I had the pleasure of fishing with Kevin and his wife from Tennessee. A Lake Toho fishing trip was a great idea to soak in the fresh air and enjoy the outdoors. The fishing conditions were sporadic with moments of rain, wind, and cloudy weather but that did not stop the bass from biting.
Kevin and his wife enjoyed every moment on the water. They caught over 15 largemouth bass on their fishing trip. The most productive method to catching these bass were wild-caught live shiners. As well, the bass were chewing on artificial baits including speed worms, soft plastic worms, and flukes.
When fishing for bass in Florida, focus your attention on submerged hydrilla on the main lake areas. This grass structure will attract fish and help you land that big bass you are after. Storms rolled through during the trip and shut down the bite. Once it moved through, Kevin and his wife picked away at several more quality fish.
They caught fish up to 4 pounds on this fishing trip. It was a blast watching them reel in these strong fighting fish. I am looking forward to getting back out on the water again with them in the future!”
Second trip of this update:
“It was a great pleasure to fish with Dennis, Steve, and Mark. While spending some time in Central Florida, they wanted to get out bass fishing. It was going to be a quick 4-hour afternoon fishing trip with some steady action.
Wild-caught shiners were the best way to catch largemouth on this trip as well. We went back to very similar areas as the last trip fishing over submerged hydrilla. The bass would come out from this structure and attack the bait.
Dennis, Steve, and Mark enjoyed the Florida sunshine and fought the windy conditions at the same time. Overall, they had a successful day on the water with over 10 largemouth bass in the boat up to 5 pounds. Nothing beats spending time on the water with your friends will reeling in quality largemouth bass. Everyone on board had a fantastic time and are looking forward to next time!” – Captain Brent Nelson

During the prime months of the year, bass will be in a wide variety of patterns. This month, largemouth bass will spawn around the proper moon phases. April should have another strong spawn. Weather plays a large role in how strong the spawn will be each month.
After major cold fronts like have been occurring during this time of year, the largemouth bass will pull off the beds. They will be headed toward the deeper water and grass structures that retain heat. Once the weather switches and a warming trend occur, you will see fish go back on beds.
Use either slow-moving soft plastics or a moving bait like a chatter bait in order to locate fish. During the cooler water temperature days, the slower presentation tends to work the best.
Hop on board and I can help dial you in on all the action here on the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes!
Fishing with Captain Bill Goudy Jr.
“I had the pleasure of fishing with Michael, Mike, and Craig on the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes. This is one beautiful place to visit and experience. It has a lot of great bass fishing as well. Michael, Mike, and Craig were traveling to Central Florida on a vacation and wanted to go out fishing for Florida largemouth bass.
They were coming from the cold state of Pennsylvania. While doing so, they wanted to enjoy Florida outdoors and sunshine. Bass fishing was on the menu and they had a great time on the water. Sunny, windy, and cloudy conditions made the trip interesting.
Michael, Mike, and Craig caught over 10 largemouth bass on their fishing trip. The most successful method to do so was wild-caught live shiners. After dialing them in on the action, they started catching fish consistently. Shiner fishing can get tricky for most anglers that are not used to it but you pick it up rather quickly!
These guys had a great time and I am looking forward to getting them back out on the water again soon!”
On my second trip, the bite was on fire with some bigger bass!
“Lakeland, Florida is a fantastic place to come visit here in Central Florida. If you are looking for an outdoor experience like no other, the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes can provide you with one.
I had the pleasure of fishing with A.J and Calvin traveling from Indiana to get out of the cold weather. While doing so, they wanted to explore what bass fishing had to offer. Sunny and breezy conditions made for a strong bite.
Water temperatures were in the range of 68-70 degrees. Cold fronts have been moving in and out of Florida but the weather is stable now. As the temperatures begin to rise, you will begin to see even stronger action.
The trip started out with a bass over 5 pounds and several others in the 2-3 pound range. The first spot slowed down and then we moved around a bit to not only see the chain of lakes but also find some new water to fish. After a short while, the fish bite turned on again.
AJ and Calvin ended their day with over 15 largemouth bass in the boat. They caught 2 over 5 pounds and several 3-4 pound bass as well. The action is red hot and is only going to continue to get better as the warm weather stays.
AJ and Calvin had a great time on the water and I am looking forward to seeing them again soon!” – Captain Bill Goudy Jr

“I had the pleasure of fishing with Scott, who was traveling to Florida for some bass fishing. Lake Toho located in Kissimmee, FL was the perfect place to explore. Being a guide, family bonding is always great but getting a solo angler out on the water has its advantages as well.
Scott was looking to cash in on some bass fishing action right here on Lake Toho. It is always nice to help an angler dial in on his fishing skills and get them on some quality largemouth bass. Scott enjoyed his quick 6-hour fishing trip catching over 30 Florida bass.
Lake Toho showed its true colors on this trip with nice 6-pound bass and several other fish in the 3-5 pound range. I got to show Scott around the lake and let him explore different areas. Most of the spots produced a decent bite.
I am looking forward to seeing Scott back here next year for some more bass fishing action!” – Captain John Leech
Fishing with Captain Brent Nelson
“Cold fronts here in Florida can really make for an interesting day on the water. Even though, as a captain, I would love to have perfect weather all year long, it just is not a reality. Getting out on the water during tough conditions inevitably makes me a much better guide.
I had the pleasure of fishing with David and his wife. They were traveling from Ontario Canada looking to enjoy some Florida weather. Unfortunately, they brought down some cooler weather which made for slower fishing conditions.
During post-frontal conditions, the fish get active in the morning and then slowly shut off. You have to find some deep water pockets and vegetation that retain heat. David and his wife enjoyed the learning process and landing some solid bass on their fishing trip.
Wild-caught live shiners were the most effective way to explore Lake Toho on this fishing adventure. They may not have caught a giant largemouth but spending quality time on the water was the most rewarding experience for them!
“I had the ultimate pleasure of getting out on the water with Tom and his son. They were traveling from Indiana looking to experience something different. The action was productive on this fishing trip for Tom and his son. They caught over 15 Florida largemouth bass in their quick 4-hour fishing trip. Calm and cloudy conditions made for a strong bite early in the day. As well, they caught some quality fish with the biggest in the 3-4 pound range.
March will continue to produce some great fishing here in Central Florida. Several lakes that I fish are starting to turn on. If you are looking for a fantastic fishing adventure and some nice weather, March is the perfect time to visit!

First Trip of this Report:
“I had the pleasure of fishing with David on Lake Tarpon in Tarpon Springs, FL. He was traveling to west Florida from Philadelphia looking to escape the northeastern weather. While doing so, he wanted to explore what Florida bass fishing was all about.
As a result, he went out fishing on beautiful Lake Tarpon. The action was steady all trip long with several-quality largemouth bass in the boat. Key structures on this trip were hydrilla and Kissimmee grass around docks. Throwing wild-caught live shiners around these areas really helps stir up a good bite.
David caught over 15 largemouth bass on his quick morning fishing trip. The biggest bass caught was right around 4.5 pounds. He was excited to see the quality of fish that he did as you just don’t get the opportunity to land fish like that up north.
David had a great time on the water and is looking forward to getting back down here soon for more action!”
Second Trip of this Report:
“Anglers, travelers, and visitors from across the globe travel to Florida to search down some big Florida largemouth bass. Alan was no different! I had the pleasure of fishing with Alan, my new friend, who was traveling from Toronto, Canada.
While down here, Alan wanted to catch some Florida largemouth bass. We went out on Lake Tarpon and had a blast all day long catching fish after fish. Alan did not expect to land his personal best largemouth bass while here. This fish weighed in at just over 5 pounds. He also lost an even bigger fish around 7 pounds right by the boat.
Fishing can be fishing sometimes, but in those moments we get addicted to the endless possibilities of what will bite the end of the line next. Live bait was the most effective method to help Alan land some beautiful largemouth bass on this fishing trip.
Cloudy but calm conditions made for a great day on the water. It was a really good experience to fish with Alan. He was a great guy to fish with and I am looking forward to getting back out on the water again soon!”
Final Trip of this Report and Video:
“Being a father and a family man, some of my favorite trips are the ones that I have father-and-son duos on the boat. I had the ultimate pleasure of fishing with Josh and his six-year-old son Ryan. They were traveling from Ohio and loved bass fishing. While here in Tarpon Springs, we adventured out on Lake Tarpon and had a trip they will never forget!
This trip was post-frontal conditions which had it windier than expected. Fortunately enough, I had several spots that have been producing and knew they would continue to. When we pulled up to the first spot, the action was red hot from the first cast to the last.
The young angler Ryan caught his personal best rather quickly weighing in at 4 pounds 4 ounces. Shortly after that catch Dad, Josh landed his personal best largemouth bass weighing in at 7 pounds 4 ounces. After picking away at several other fish, it started to slow down.
It was nice to show Josh and Ryan around the lake further. We pulled up on another spot, where they were bedding, and caught several more quality largemouth bass. It was a solid day of catching numbers of bass in the 2-4 pound range keeping everyone on board excited.
Josh and Ryan had an amazing experience on Lake Tarpon. They are looking to come back and explore the waters again with the whole family. I am looking forward to showing them around in the near future!” – Captain Bill Goudy Jr

“Lake Toho is my home lake and waters. It is a lake I have been fishing for many years now. This trip I am about to share with you is one of the books. The bass were biting and is an indication of how the fishing is going to be in the next several weeks.
I had the pleasure of fishing with John and his daughter Nikki. They were traveling from New York looking to enjoy Florida outdoors. While doing so, Lake Toho fishing was on the menu and it sure showed up for them. It was one of the best days of fishing I’ve had in a long time.
Some days you can go out on the water and crush the bass on artificial baits when they are schooling. This time of year though calls for live bait. John and Nicki landed over 30 largemouth bass on their fishing trip with some giant fish in the mix.
Nicki caught most of the fish. The biggest fish of the trip weighed in at 7 pounds with a 6.5, 6, 5 and several other quality bass in the 3-4 pound range caught. It was a blast to watch this young girl and her father have such a great time reeling in fish.
I am looking forward to fishing with Nicki and John again on their next trip from New York!” – Capt John Leech
Fishing with Captain Steve Niemoeller
“I had the pleasure of fishing with Bob, and his two young boys Bobby and Xavier. They were 12 and 9 years of age. I think I can speak for all my fellow captains, it is trips like these that get us the most excited. It brings us back to when we were younger and got to enjoy a day on the water with our father.
Bob and his boys were traveling from New Hampshire. Instead of going to all the theme parks this year, they wanted to go out bass fishing on Lake Toho. Even with windy conditions, we made it happen for them.
Wild-caught live shiners were the most effective method to put bass in the boat on this fishing trip. One of the best parts was watching Bobby and Xavier catch bass all trip long. They love to bass fish back home and just had to see what Florida Bass Fishing could produce for them.
The biggest fish caught on this trip weighed in at 3.5 pounds. They also caught several bass in the 2-3 pound range with no trophies caught. It was a fun day by all!
I am looking forward to our next trip. For all your freshwater fishing needs, contact us here at Bass Online and we will be glad to help!” – Captain Steve Niemoeller
Fishing with Captain Brent Nelson
Captain Brent got the chance to fish a double on this day that really captured how the fishing will be in the upcoming weeks.
“I had the pleasure of fishing with Jeff, Noah, and Darrel Black on a Lake Toho Bass Fishing Charter out of Kissimmee. They were traveling from Canada looking to cash in on some bass fishing here in Florida. This was a morning fishing trip with wild-caught live shiners, making for a fantastic day on the water.
The most productive structure to fish almost all-year-round in Central Florida is submerged Hydrilla. When you can find quality grass around Hydrilla, it is an even better combo. Slight winds made for a strong bite in the morning and once it stopped, the bite slowed down.
Jeff, Noah, and Darrel caught over 35 largemouth bass on their fishing trip. The biggest fish weighed in at 5.5 pounds with several truly quality fish in the mix! They had a great time fishing on Lake Toho and are looking forward to getting back down here soon!
I am looking forward to our next bass fishing adventure.”
Within hours of the last trip, Captain Brent was back out on Lake Toho with a new set of clients looking to catch some bass!
“Right after fishing with my last clients, I was back out on the water. This time, I had the pleasure of fishing with India, Andrew, and Mom. They were traveling from Minnesota looking to explore what Kissimmee, FL had to offer them.
They were new to fishing with live bait, especially wild-caught live shiners. Once I dialed them in on how to catch bass with shiners, they had a blast. The bite was slower than the morning time but they still managed to land over 25 largemouth bass.
Andrew came in strong with the biggest bass weighing close to 5 pounds. The shiners were fished around backwater areas near Kissimmee grass and spatterdock lily pads. These areas were prime for catching numbers of bass all trip long.
India, Andrew, and Mom all had a really great time fishing on Lake Toho. I am looking forward to fishing with them again soon!” – Captain Brent Nelson
Fishing with Captain Devin Dickerson
Every now and then, Lake Toho really shows it’s true colors. This trip to come is one of the main reasons you come explore what Florida Bass Fishing has to offer, cause you just never know what you will catch. Also, this report is a highlight of our March Toho Fishing forecast!
“I had the pleasure of fishing with the Lindsey Family. They were traveling from Upstate New York looking to soak in some Florida sunshine. While doing so, bass fishing was one of the outdoor experiences they had to try. On their first day of fishing, they had such a great time on the water that they immediately booked another trip.
It was on the second trip that the true magic happened. As we always recommend, live bait is the most successful method to catch largemouth bass here in Florida. The Lindsey Family went out on Lake Toho on the pontoon fishing vessel looking to see what they could catch the second time.
Lake Toho woke up for them and showed them a fantastic trip they will never forget. Everyone on board had their share of catching some quality largemouth bass but two of the family members cashed in on GIANT TROPHY bass. These fish weighed in at 9.5 pounds and 8.8 pounds. It is not every day that you catch two big bass like this in one trip.
Sunny and beautiful weather only made this trip complete. It was one that this family will never forget and I am forever grateful to have the opportunity to show them such a great time on the water. I am most certainly looking forward to fishing with them again in the near future!” – Capt Devin Dickerson
Fishing with Captain Bill Goudy Jr on Lake Toho
“Lake Toho has been on fire lately and all of our team captains have been catching some big bass. It is a testament of what is to come in the near future!
I had the pleasure of fishing two trips with Gary and his friend Greg. While traveling from Washington D.C, Gary did not expect to experience what he did. Greg is a Florida local that loves to get outdoors. When his friend Gary was visiting, they wanted to explore Lake Toho in Kissimmee, FL.
I had the honor of getting a chance to fish with them for two days. One was a morning trip and the other was an afternoon fishing trip. Both trips were absolutely fantastic and productive for catching largemouth bass.
On their first fishing trip out on the water, Gary caught the biggest bass of his life. It weighed in at 9 pounds even. Wild-caught live shiners were the most effective method to catch bass on both fishing trips. Submerged grass on the main lake was the most productive for landing some quality bass.
On the afternoon fishing trip, they had 7 fish in the boat in their first two hours. Two of those fish were 5-pounds or better. The rest of the fish caught on this trip weighed in the 3-4 pound class range.
Windy conditions on the second trip made it more difficult to fish some of the prime spots we had the opportunity to fish on the first day. One thing I do know for sure is that they will be back for more of this insane action on Lake Toho.

“Cold fronts made the fishing tougher than normal on this trip. Luckily, I was able to adjust some tactics to make it happen. One of the best parts about being a fishing captain is the challenges you have to face on a daily basis. When you overcome them, you have the greatest joy!
I had the pleasure of fishing with Jose, who was traveling from Illinois on vacation. While doing so, Florida bass fishing was an activity he was interested in exploring. Staying near Lakeland, he had several choices but the Winter Haven Chain was one that appealed to him the most.
The bite may have been slower than normal but we caught several quality largemouth bass. Jose caught over 10 largemouth on this fishing trip with the biggest weighing in at 5 pounds. It happened to be his personal best. Nothing like fishing in tough conditions and still pulling out a personal best. It was a trip he would not forget!
Sunny, Calm, and Breezy conditions did help stir up some activity for Jose. Wild-caught shiners were the most effective method to land bass on this tough day. Jose will be back for more action and I am looking forward to getting him back out on the water!”
It was not long after this fishing trip that the conditions changed and some bigger bass started to roll in!
“This trip, I had the pleasure of fishing with Tom, who was traveling from Pennsylvania. He was looking to escape the cold weather and soak up some Florida sun. While doing so, I helped him get on some quality Florida largemouth bass on the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes.
Sunny and calm fishing conditions really got the bass fired up. Tom enjoyed every moment reeling in over 10 largemouth bass on his quick fishing trip. Wild-caught live shiners was yet again the best method to land all his fish during this time of year. If you want to catch quality largemouth bass, live bait is the best way to do so.
Tom caught his personal best bass on this fishing trip. This weighed in at 6 pounds. He also caught a beautiful 5-pound bass as well. You really can’t beat the action and it is only going to continue to get better. Big bass are rolling in as the weather begins to stabilize.
