Light Tackle Okeechobee Fishing
This archived Lake Okeechobee report follows two repeat-client trips with Captain Mark Shepard. Both outings focused on light spinning tackle and artificial lures from the Clewiston side of the lake.
Hank and his son Glenn preferred an active artificial-lure approach. During their historical trip, soft plastics and crankbaits produced fish around changing wind conditions. When the wind eased, the bite slowed; when it shifted and picked up, activity improved again.
Shortly afterward, Mark fished with Bob and Kathy, another repeat-client group visiting Clewiston. They also wanted to fish artificial lures, and the same historical pattern showed up: wind changes affected the bite more than the calendar date itself.
The lasting lesson is that light tackle can make average-size bass especially enjoyable, but lure choice and fish activity should follow current wind, vegetation, water level, and seasonal movement rather than a fixed November rule.
