Lake Okeechobee Bass Fishing Charter
This archived Lake Okeechobee trip report follows Capt. Brian Brown and Paul on an eight-hour day focused on Harney Pond and the Clewiston side of the lake.
Paul wanted to fish artificial lures, but a recent cold front had slowed the early bite. The start was pushed back about an hour so the sun could warm the water and improve conditions.
During this historical trip, live shiners produced the early action. Paul and Capt. Brian worked the south side of the lake around Harney Pond, then switched to artificial lures later in the day as conditions improved.
They caught several largemouth bass, including one around 5 1/2 pounds, along with mudfish. The artificial-lure portion of the trip included stick worms and topwater presentations while they covered water with the trolling motor.
The useful lesson is not that every cold-front day should be fished the same way. Instead, this trip shows how a guide may adjust start time, location, bait, and presentation as water temperature and weather change.
