Lake Lucas
Located nearby the Upper River Road at Macon, Lake Lucas stirred up the fish lover’s community when it first opened up. A water storage lake takes up 589 acres, with its primary water source to the Ocmulgee River. This lake also provides water to Macon and Bibb County.
However, this excellent spot for fishing goes under anglers’ radar because of the strict rules set by the Macon water authority.
Access to Javors Lucas Lake is open to the public; however, the Macon Water Authority limits the hours and days. Therefore, anglers cannot fish on this lake during public holidays, such as Labor Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, etc.
During the fishing season at Javors Lucas Lake, you will find a complete pool filled with diverse basses (largemouth, striped, hybrid, spotted, etc.), crappie, catfish, shellcracker, and bluegill fish.
If you are catching bass, remember that the Macon Water Authority has set a limit of 10 per day for this species. However, this mainly applies to anglers, and average anglers typically catch less.
The lake also hosts a kids’ fishing derby, an exciting annual event. Unfortunately, the lake is closed to the public in July and August, but it will reopen in September. It is typically open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. So head up to Jones County Upper River Road for the best fishing experience.
Gas-powered motorboats are prohibited to preserve the lake’s water quality. Trolling and electric motors are the only boats you can use here, which drives up the cost.
Regarding direct costs, the authority has set a fee of 5 USD for shoreline fishing. However, you can get season passes for 50 USD if you stay at the shore. And for fishing off the coast, the daily boat fee is $10 US, and the season pass is $100 US.
