Okeechobee Toad Bass Fishing
This archived Lake Okeechobee report preserves several trips with Captain Joe from both the Belle Glade and Okeechobee City sides of the lake.
Belle Glade and Slims Fish Camp Trips
Wesley, Shane, and Pee Wee traveled from South Carolina for an afternoon trip on the southeast end of Lake Okeechobee. Most of the fish were smaller “cookie-cutter” bass, but the trip provided steady action and a good example of how numbers can matter as much as one trophy fish.
A later trip with Eric and Justin from New Jersey also produced steady largemouth action along with several blue catfish.
The useful lesson from these Belle Glade-side trips is that a day does not need a giant bass to be productive. Current conditions, location, and the anglers’ goals should determine how success is measured.
Okeechobee City Trip and a Toad Bass
On another outing, Captain Joe fished from Okeechobee City with Jeremy, DJ, and Jeff.
Jeremy started the day with a largemouth bass close to 6 pounds. Several other quality bass followed, along with gar.
That historical fish is the strongest “toad bass” proof on this page, but it should not be read as a guarantee that one side of the lake will always produce larger fish.
What These Trips Show
Lake Okeechobee can fish very differently from Belle Glade to Okeechobee City. Wind, water level, vegetation, water clarity, and fish position can change which area is best on a given day.
