Southeast Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report
This archived Lake Okeechobee report follows a southeast-corner trip with Capt. Dave Lauer. Jim and two family members visiting from Chicago fished the southeast side of Lake Okeechobee using live shiners.
What Happened on the Trip?
During this historical outing, the group used eight dozen shiners and caught up to 60 largemouth bass. The best fish weighed around 7 pounds. Cloud cover and north wind were part of the day’s conditions, and the group caught fish in different stages of seasonal movement.
What Anglers Can Learn
The lasting value of this report is the southeast-corner field history—not the old “on fire right now” language. Wind direction and cloud cover can affect conditions on a large, shallow lake, but past results do not predict the next trip. Current anglers should base their decisions on present wind, water level, vegetation, water clarity, and fish location.
