Fishing with Captain Robert Miley in Miami, Florida

February Miami Bass Fishing 1“Peacock bass are one amazing species to catch. Cool winter weather can make them difficult to catch but some days can really produce some beautiful fish. I know where the fish are at, it just is a matter of patience and letting the sun warm things up.

I had the pleasure of fishing with Robert and his brother-in-law Rick traveling from Ohio looking to cash in on some peacock bass fishing. While visiting the Lake Placida area in Central Florida, they came down to Miami to crush some exotic species.

Overcast conditions made the fishing conditions tougher than normal. Robert and Rick caught over 8 beautiful peacock bass though weighing up to 5 pounds. Several of the bass weighed in a 3-4 pound range as well.

The fish were on the bottom in deeper and warmer water. We utilized live bait and different techniques to get the bass to come up and eat. You can always find fish but it is not always one right after another.

Robert and Rick had a fantastic time on the water. I am looking forward to seeing them come back to South Florida in search of some more peacock bass fishing action.”

Second trip of the Report:

Airport Lakes fishing is steadily on the rise. The main reason for this is that the water temperatures and air temperatures are rising. When the Florida sun pushes out the cool temps, it really fires up the peacock bass.

I had the pleasure of fishing with Joe and Bill, who were traveling from Indianapolis. They came out on a 6-hour fishing trip in search of Florida peacock bass. We had a fantastic day on the water with a steady bite. Unfortunately, they did not catch any giants but enjoyed the perfect fishing weather.  February Miami Bass Fishing 2

Joe and Bill used live domestic shiners to land over 10 peacock bass. The biggest fish weighed in at 3 pounds. I always enjoy helping clients check off species and catch some quality ones.
The wind was light on this fishing trip making for a great day on the water. As the weather continues to stabilize, the bite will begin to pick up!

I am looking forward to getting Joe and Bill back out on some excellent fishing here in South Florida!” – Captain Robert Miley

“The Florida Everglades is one of the best places to take your children fishing. It will get them hooked for life on some of the most action-packed adventures you can embark on. During these cooler months of the year, water levels drop making for a great time fishing in the long canal systems. I had the pleasure of fishing with Bryan and his son Luke. They were traveling from the cold northern state of New York. While doing so, Florida bass fishing was most certainly on the list of things to do. They were staying over on the west coast of Florida and within miles of their destination, they landed themselves in the Florida Everglades along Alligator Alley. Calm winds and light showers made for an interesting day on the water. The fish were active right from the start of this fishing trip. Artificial baits and live bait were used on this charter. The best artificial baits to use are soft-plastic flukes, senkos, and hard topwater baits. Live bait works exceptionally well, especially for Everglades peacock bass. Numbers of bass were caught on this fishing trip. Most of the fish caught were largemouth bass along with oscars and cichlids. The action is getting really good. Bryan and his son Luke had a fantastic time fishing in the Everglades. I am most certainly looking forward to getting them back out on the water soon!”- Capt Mark Rogers

Fishing with Captain Nick Pasquarello

“It is not every day that you get the chance to travel to Florida. Every trip can be truly amazing, only if you include an outdoor adventure. Soaking up the Florida sunshine while setting the hook into largemouth and peacock bass is a great way to get outdoors. I had the pleasure of fishing with Richard and his son Jack. They were traveling from Colorado looking to spend some time in FL. While doing so, they wanted to explore what the Florida Everglades had to offer. Peacock bass was one of the main species on their list to catch and we made it happen for them. February-Everglades-Fishing-Update Sunny and breezy conditions made for a fantastic day on the water. Both peacock bass and largemouth bass were biting on this fishing trip. They got what they were looking for landing over 20 bass on this trip. The peacock bass is very aggressive towards live bait and the largemouth enjoys eating soft-plastic baits. You can catch both species all trip long when visiting and exploring Alligator Alley! Richard and Jack both had an amazing time fishing in the Everglades. I am looking forward to getting back out on the water again with them soon!” – Capt Nick Pasquarello

Fishing with Captain Joe Gruny

“Some of the best adventures and fishing trips are the ones that you get to spend multiple days with a client. I love to get to know new and repeat clients on two-day fishing trips. I had the pleasure of fishing with Howard and Julie, who were traveling from Minnesota to escape the cold weather. Unfortunately, it seems like they brought it with them to Florida. On their 2-day fishing adventure, South Florida experienced a cold front that did not slow the bite down. Several locations stay very consistent even though the temperatures change. The Florida Everglades, especially along Alligator Alley is most certainly one of them. Howard and Julie had a blast catching over 40 largemouth bass on their fishing trips. As the water continues to drop, the bite will get even better. February-Everglades-Fishing-Update Soft-plastics including flukes, wacky worms, shakey heads, along with live bait was the most successful method to putting bass in the boat. A mix of sunny, breezy, and cloudy weather made for interesting fishing conditions. All-in-all, Howard and Julie had a blast catching bass on their fishing adventure. I am looking forward to seeing what I can help them catch on their next adventure!” – Capt Joe Gruny

Today, I had the pleasure of fishing with Joe and Andrea. They were traveling from New Jersey looking to explore what South Florida had to offer. While doing so, peacock bass fishing peaked their interest. Andrea is a nurse and Joe is a wakeboard instructor, so taking a break in the outdoors was the perfect way to relax.

Cooler morning airs and conditions coming toward a full moon had the fish feeding strong. I started the trip at the bridges which held some deeper water structure. As a result, they started catching some beautiful peacock bass. Andrea also hooked into a big freshwater snook that put up a great fight. After 15 minutes, the snook ran itself into one of the pilings and cut the line.

The major feed of the day was at 10:30 AM. As the time was approaching, we headed up to one of my big fish spots. It was not long until Joe and Andrea were reeling in some beautiful fish. 5 of their best peacock bass weighed in the 3-4 pound range. The biggest fish caught weighed in at 4.5 pounds out of Miami, FL.

Peacock bass fishing was a great addition to their vacation down here in South Florida. The bite has been really strong and I am looking forward to seeing them back out on the water again sometime!” – Capt Robert Miley

“It is always a true pleasure to add value and give a couple some awesome fishing experiences on their vacation. I had the pleasure of fishing with Scott and Nancy on Miami’s Airport Lakes on this fishing trip. They were traveling from Minnesota to escape the cold weather and enjoy some Florida sunshine. There is no better way to do so than on a Miami peacock bass fishing trip.

We adventured out for two straight days and the fishing was fantastic. Every now and then, the bite can have a slow start. Maintaining patience, we were able to cash in on some really nice peacock bass. Live bait was the preferred method of catching fish on this trip.

Sunny and windy conditions pushed the bass into key pockets and areas. I knew where to position and target them. Scott and Nancy caught over 20 bass on their fishing trips combined. The biggest bass weighed in at 5.23 pounds with numbers of 3 and 4-pound bass in the mix.

The action was red hot and I was super glad to be able to get back down there. Scott and Nancy had a fantastic time on the water and I am looking forward to our next adventure in Miami, Florida!” – Capt Joe Gruny

I had the pleasure of fishing with Andrew. He was on a solo mission to land some beautiful peacock bass in Naples, FL. While visiting from Toronto Canada, freshwater fishing was a must. Luckily, the Golden Gate Canal was not very far and the perfect spot to fish.

The day started out slow due to some cool night-time weather. Once the surface temperature rose, the fish started to bite. You never really know what is going to happen until you’re out on the water in the mix.

Fishing with Boris

December Miami Airport Lakes Fishing ChartersI had the pleasure of fishing with Boris on this fishing trip. He was traveling from Allentown, Pennsylvania enjoying some Florida sun. While doing so, peacock bass fishing on Miami Airport Lakes was the move.

Being a retired surgeon, Boris just wanted to kick back and relax on this fishing trip. I got to show him around Airport Lakes. The fishing was steady all trip long. We moved around from spot to spot before finding the honey hole.

Some days, you just miss the prime feed. This was a 6-hour fishing trip that ran to 1 PM with a prime feed at 1:30 PM. Fortunate enough for Boris, he did not need a prime feed to find a GIANT Trophy Peacock Bass.

Boris started out catching several nice 2-pound peacock bass. As the trip went on, several more 2-3 pound range fish start coming in. Shortly after that, a beautiful 5-pound peacock bass was caught.

Just before the trip was completed, Boris landed another bass. This was the biggest of the day. It weighed in at 7 pounds 5 ounces. Boris did not even realize what he did. Most anglers would be beyond excited to land this fish.

Boris was in relaxation mode and catching fish was just the fun part.

I am looking forward to fishing with him again soon on his next visit to South Florida!” – Captain Bob Miley

Fishing with Joseph

“Shortly after my last trip, I was back out on the water of Miami Airport Lakes. This time, I had the pleasure of fishing with Joseph and his Dad. Some of my favorite trips are father and son teams.

This trip was an afternoon 4-hour fishing charter. Just like the last trip, the prime feed with this waning moon phase was later in the trip. It caused a slower action, but as always, we found them.

Joseph and his Dad caught a decent number of peacock bass on this fishing trip. After picking away at the fish. We moved to one of my big fish holes.December Airport Lakes Fishing

As time was slipping away, the father and son team got into some beautiful peacock bass. This fish breached 5 pounds making it a trophy for the Florida waters.
