Lake Okeechobee is beginning to show its true colors. As the weather and water temperatures begin to change, the bass will begin to move shallow. All fishermen and fisherwomen in Florida are waiting for that first cold front to get the bass active and feeding. This will begin the spawning process. As of current, our local experts are beginning to see males make their way to shallow water.

Clewiston, FL is a fantastic place to go bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee. Whether for the resorts or true fishing town feel, it is a great destination for first-timers coming to Lake Okeechobee. Meet David, he was traveling from Kentucky looking to explore what Lake Okeechobee had to offer. Captain Mark Shepard had the pleasure of fishing with him and helping him land some beautiful fish.

Captain Mark had a great time with David. David is good friends with one of Captain Mark’s old friends and tournament directors. The stories that went back and forth were a great part of this fishing trip. Luckily for David, the light tackle fishing was very productive!

On this fishing trip, the outside edges was holding the fish the best. Throwing shallow running crankbaits like Mark Shepard’s WOW Factor 2.0 brought the fish to the boat. The Mullet Color was the most productive style on this fishing trip. Several other artificial baits including texas rigged worms and flukes put some nice fish in the boat.

David had some slower spells throughout this fishing trip. The wind began to pick up making it increasingly more difficult to throw artificial baits. Captain Mark pushed back into the grass beds catching bass congregated in smaller patches.

“It was great to see clean fish coming in from the main lake. We aren’t seeing spawning signs quite yet but the temperatures are still too warm! I am looking forward to seeing the big females roll in soon!” – Capt Mark

David had a fantastic time fishing on Lake Okeechobee. Captain Mark is looking forward to their next adventure in the near future!

Shortly after this fishing trip, Joseph and his significant other took an adventure out on Lake Okeechobee. This time, our adventures take us to the north end of the lake out of Okeechobee City, FL. Every destination on the lake has similarities but are all vastly different. Captain Mark Rogers had the pleasure of fishing with these lovely people getting them on some great fish. Joseph and his significant other were traveling from Ohio looking to enjoy some warmer weather. The seasons are changing up north and they wanted to get on some Lake Okeechobee bass before things changed. Fishing was great and they had a great time on the water.

The weather conditions paired up for a nice day on the water. “It was partly cloudy and the thunderstorms were rolling but gladly did not come our way” -Capt Mark. The winds also picked up at times but we got into protected areas behind islands and found the largemouth bass.

Artificial baits were productive during the early morning hours. Whether it was a soft plastic or topwater baits, the action was steady throughout the whole trip. A few largemouth blew up on the baits but never got a hold of them.

One of the benefits and helping factors for the activity and productive fishing was the crystal clear water. The lake is looking beautiful and you can tell that the season is going to be strong. After having a blast with artificial baits, Joseph and his significant other caught some largemouth bass with live bait. Always fun to throw live bait in the mix.

Everyone aboard had a great time fishing. Captain Mark is looking forward to getting back out on the water with them again in the near future!
