Lake Okeechobee in August, I’m onboard fishing with Rodd Campbell from Washington DC. Started Thursday morning at Okeechobee Fishing Headquarters pick up some bait & headed to the boat ramp. At first break of light, we were heading South out the Kissimmee River to Coty’s Cove and Rodd threw a topwater and caught a nice fish on his first cast of the day. He caught six bass and large mud fish on spinner baits and top water. After early morning bite slowed down, we ran out to Kings Bar Pass and Buckhead Ridge Canal and hooked on to a few more bass and fished with crickets for a short time a got some bream. The last two hours of the trip we went to spot near Eagle Bay Island and fished bigger fish with shiners. He landed a bass, 3 lbs. & a real nice 4 1/2 pounder in the above picture.
Looking forward to fishing with R. Campbell in the future

The fish are on the move, as the shallow water is hot, creating summer patterns for this one of a kind lake. The fishing throughout the summer can sometimes be tough on Lake Okeechobee, but also can be the best bass fishing. The Largemouth bass are schooling, so it’s all about the bait as the bait moves in shore you can find very fast and crazy feeding frenzy’s. The Largemouth Bass will herd bait like cowboys and when you find these fish you are in for a treat. Best way to can fish them is top water, crank baits, plastics and swim baits.
Over the last few weeks I sure enjoyed the different adventures with everybody this time of year can be a different adventure every day. When you see the bait jumping out of the water trying to get away from the number 1 game fish you see why sport fishing for Largemouth Bass on Lake Okeechobee is one of the most sought after fishery in the world.
I hope to see yea Capt. Mark Shepard
Till next time tight lines and good fishing….

The summer is here and the weather is warm, but the fish are smart, they’re starting to school on bait-fish. Fishing has been fun, just look at the pictures, big smiles & nice largemouth okeechobee bass.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has teamed up with the “Wounded Warrior Project” to recognize the service of our nation’s injured war veterans. The FWC presented war veterans with five-year fishing-license bonus packages containing items donated by the freshwater fishing industry.

For information on that, visit MyFWC.com/License.
The Wounded Warrior Project is taking U.S. war veterans on fishing excursions on Lake Okeechobee. A pair of Iraqi war veterans went fishing June 7 and 8, guided by a professional bass angler, and caught more than 60 bass. During a two-day excursion last month, another pair of Iraqi war veterans caught approximately 50 bass. Two more fishing trips are planned for August and October.
The trip was sponsored by SMI Cold Therapy of Butler, Pa., a manufacturer of cold-therapy products and services for post-operative patient care in hospitals and surgery centers, and byBassOnline.com, Florida’s largest freshwater guide service and outfitter for bass fishing on Florida lakes, canals and rivers.
