Florida Everglades

In April on the 8, 9, and 10, for three great days, I had the honor of fishing with two crazy guys Vinny and Melvin out of Pennsylvania.  These Guys are  repeat snowbird clients for the last four years that come to South Florida to thaw out from the cold weather.  I informed  the guys that they needed to be ready to catch a lot of fish and that the artificial bite was on! Needless to say Vinny and Melvin will be back to break their record of over one hundred and sixty fish.  Everglades finest and best fishing.

Till next time tight lines and good fishing….

Everglades Fishing with the Boys from Texas

Monday, July 14th, 2008

fishing-in-the-glades-boys-from-texas-003.jpg

For the last two days we were very fortunate to be fishing with Michael Shore and his group of friend from the Dallas, TX area once again. The two days were a whirl wind of laughs and stories to say the least, especially for those guys.

They flew in Friday afternoon to Ft Lauderdale airport, then headed over to the Hard-Rock Casino and Resort in town where we would pick them up at 6am the next morning. This group of fishermen are probably the most versatile group we get to spend time with, they adapt well and just have a lot of fun. This years trip had several highlights, but none more then the “ball gazing games”…and of coarse the big fish that were caught.

On Saturday we headed to a spot known for big fish, but not often fished due to the long dirt road travel to access the fishery. As expected we fished three boats all day long with not a sign of another. The fishing was tougher then I would have like to seen it with the resent rains. It did not help matters that we were dealing with bite blue bird skies also. The one hope I had for the location, was that it would be consistent as in the past and give up a big trophy bass.

Today was no different then most summer fishing days you just had to find the fish, then sloooooow down and fish. That’s what our boat did after a slow period in the morning we got right in the grove. We did miss a lot of fish at first, then we figured out the fish were biting very softly. Around 11am our boat hooked into a monster bass which was pulled drag like crazy and then jumped over the net twice. In the end we landed her and WON the big fish battle. She weighted just around 9lbs, this fish had a 10lb head with a 8lb body and was a very long fish. In the last 10 minutes of fishing Michael hooked into another quality fish, maybe 5 or 6 pounds. It all happen really quick, the fish just jumped and gave him that largemouth bass wave as she came out of the water. I think she simply was giving him a “ball gaze” either way she got off to be caught on another day.

On day two we headed the complete opposite direction, wanting to provide a new experience and at the same time put these guys on more fish. After about a 1 hour ride we arrived with a sprinkle of rain already on us, I was worried knowing the forecast called for 60 present chance of rain. But, as the fish gods quite often do for us they let it rain everywhere but on us today. With the overcast sky’s we started with topwater and as the day goes without staying, we stayed with it all day.

Today worked out pretty good, as the picture shows above everyone caught fish with a couple over 5 lbs and one or two that just took my breath a way when they hit the lure.

All in all, a GREAT bunch of guys to fish with. I really want to thank Michael and his friends for spending a couple of days with us.

I think we had as much fun as I hope all of you did. Till next time, tight lines!

Florida Everglade Fishing Report

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Today I had out return customer Bob and his friend Steve from popular Danbury, CT. Last time down they fished with Capt Mark Shepard on Lake Okeechobee and had great success on wild shiners. So today I decided t take them deep in to the Everglades for some fast action largemouth bass on artificial baits.

First thing in the morning we were checked by the Broward County Everglades Bass Fishing Photosheriffs, really nice guy. He checked everything, including Florida fishing license…hey and we passed with flying colors. After blasting off, we slowed and landed at the first location starting with topwater action. I don’t know if it was the morning bite that we missed or the full moon, but there was not much of a topwater bite at all. Sometimes, you just need to go with the flow and not try to force feed them and that’s just what we did.

After a few line size adjustments, we found the combination that worked. once again our Danbury, CT crew had another successful trip boating around 25 bass in 4 hours. For all of you guys and girls in CT, we really appreciate all the support and business you provide us.

Cannot wait to see these two back for another round, we had a great time!

I look forward to talking fishing with all of you!

2 Days Florida Peacock & Largemouth Bass

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Florida Largemouth & Peacock bassToday I had the pleasure of being with Erica & Rick Skier from Palmdale, CA for two days of South Florida bass fishing. The first day of two days we picked them up at the Hard Rock Casino and Resort and then drove to the dock. When we left the dock in Miami this morning we decided to fish for Peacock bass, this is why they traveled from California.

We ran way south of the boat ramp and fished around the mouth of mainly bridges and some canals. The bait we were using were live shiners and for artificial we threw top-water , jerk baits and rattle traps. Within minutes of our first cast Erica scored with a few nice Peacock bass. As the morning went on we caught several more with a few nice ones. This day of fishing in the Miami area was filled with a lot of stories and action.

After a nice lunch at one the local watering holes, we were back on the trailer and headed to the Hard Rock.Everglades Holiday park

On day two, I arrived at the Hard Rock Casino & Resort where they were right on time and ready to experience the Florida Everglades, as they have heard so much about.

We arrived at Everglades Holiday Park and headed out to my first location. being it was the weekend and fathers day there was a noticeable increase in boat traffic. So, we decided to make a few moves which paid off for the most part. Both, Erica & Rick caught fish at every location we stopped at, including a few bowfin which Erica seem to enjoy a lot.

BassOnline Fishing Guide Wins Again!

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

HT3′s Summer Slam Series team tour was in the Everglades Sunday, launching out of Holiday Park. The weigh in concluded at the S.A.F.E.R. pavilion as the director David Oliveira called the results out. He and his partner Jeff Ladroux handled the launch, weigh in and recording of the results and did so in an accurate and timely manner.

It was a great, but extremely hot day that at it’s conclusion found the winning team BassOnline.com of Brett Isackson and Mike Allgar taking home first place on 18.62 pounds and $480.00 on just 7 boats competing.

In a distant second was Steve McDonald and Bud Randall with 15.70 pounds while big fish of the day, a 6.10 pounder was caught by third place team of Jeff Justice and Danny Shelton. The top 5 finished out with HT3 American Tour anglers, Aymon Wilcox and Kevin Thomas in 4th while the team of Burke and Burke came in 5th.

Next up for the Everglades division is July 20, so the anglers have a few weeks off to fish other events, cut the grass or just relax as the dog days of summer are officially upon us.
