Lake Okeechobee Fishing this week has been super with big numbers of bass, each day with a lot of big fish mixed in our daily catches. The fishing condition’s have been pretty good, weather more stable and the water is warming. With the full moon this week, the spawn is getting stronger and stronger.

It hasn’t happen in years, but the fishing opportunity’s have been really good with artificial lures. We have been doing a lot of site fishing for big bass, a lot of swim baits and all kinds of plastics. This fishing is pretty easy, great for all types of anglers.

I would like to say thanks to every body I fished with this week,  it was great to be part of your adventures.

Till next time tight lines and good fishing….

Bass Fishing Lake Okeechobee is March 2010

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

John OakleyMarch customers 2March customersMark Shepard Big O

The month of March brings  normal Florida weather patterns for bass fishermen and everybody coming to Florida to warm up. This has been the coldest winter I have ever seen in my life. When I was a kid I seen some bad cold fronts that killed lots of salt water game fish but this winter made history. Most every body knows about all the big fish kills in salt and fresh water the salt water game fish took a big hit but allot of good things happened in the fresh water.

The native fish of America such as bass, bluegill, crappie and native catfish will not an did not die these fish can live in frozen lakes.  All over the U S. the none native fish took a big hit and allot of these fish are not wanted in these waters, so  lets just say nature takes care of it’s own.  One thing all this cold weather made for some tough fishing conditions at times and some cold tournament’s but we have been able to catch them anyways.

The good news that we are warming up and the fishing is hot with lots of numbers of fish and some good ones to.The fishing will be great over the next few month with big spawns to come on world famous Lake Okeechobee.  I would like to thank some friends Matt and Ken Bernstein and Don Gardner it was good to see you guys and John Oakley it’s always a adventure and every body that comes to fish with me I also thank every body for their thoughts and prayers for me while I’m on the road.

Hope to see you,

Capt. Mark Shepard

The Butler ” Off The Chain ” of Lakes 3/25/10

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Lake Toho -Steve2Lake Toho -Steve

Today, I took out Stephen Knickerbocker from San Jose, California for a 6 hour live bait / artificial fishing trip on the Butler Chain of Lakes who has been anxious to come to Florida to go fishing and today although a little slow the final tally was 16 nice fish all over 4 pounds except 2 and had 3 over 6 pounds we did lose a fish that may have been 8 or 9 pounds right at the boat, it just saw us and bolted and broke the 20lb test big game (in a snap!)

Toward the end of the trip we decided to put 4 in the live-well for a group picture (of the fish) so I had to hustle and in the last 30 minutes we caught 3 nice fish that were the average size and one of the 2 small fish that we caught, too bad that it was a 2 pounder and not another 4 or 5. We had a great day otherwise. The fishing has been phenomenal for the past several weeks and with it warming up it will only get better.

Till next time tight lines and good fishing….

Lake Okeechobee Fishing on FIRE

Trophy Fishing on Lake Okeechobee

Trophy Fishing on Lake Okeechobee

Today was such an AWESOME day on the water at the “Big O” Lake Okeechobee.

Bill, Larry and Steve had a very great day. Like always happend,we missed some hawgs today but managed to put this nice stringer together.

Bill had on one hawg over 10lbs, when that big fish hit his giant shiner it sounded like a bowling ball explosion. He fought her for a while, it snapped twenty pound big game fishing line like it was paper. That will wait for him on his next trip.

Bye the end of the trip we had over twenty fish up to six pounds!

Till next time tight lines and good fishing….
