FWC Presents Draft For Black Bass Management Plan

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) staff will introduce a concept for a new black bass management plan on Oct. 26.

Reporter: Press Release

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Press Release:

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) staff will introduce a concept for a new black bass management plan on Oct. 26 at the Florida Freshwater Fishing Coalition meeting in Orlando. The plan addresses the long-term needs of this group of sport fish, which includes Florida largemouth, shoal, spotted and Suwannee basses.

Black bass are the most popular recreational fish in the world. In Florida, they provide 822,000 anglers over the age of 16 with 14.7 million days of healthy outdoor recreation and generate more than a billion dollars in economic impact for Florida, according to the 2006 National Survey of Hunting, Fishing and Wildlife-Associated Recreation.

The FWC seeks public input at the unveiling of the draft plan. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. in the Orlando Bass Pro Shop’s conference room during the inaugural meeting of the Florida Freshwater Fishing Coalition. FLFFC is a partnership of freshwater fishery organizations and anglers, representing a cross-section of businesses, nonprofits and individuals, who have a stake in ensuring the future of Florida’s outstanding freshwater fisheries. Collectively, they want to learn about and discuss lake management issues, fisheries data and research, so they can provide an informed voice to achieve the coalition’s vision. Their mission is “To serve as a coalition of freshwater fishery organizations and anglers to protect our rights by providing representation in Florida government on pertinent issues that affect recreation and conservation.” For more information, visit www.FLFFC.org.

“The FLFFC is ecstatic to be able to discuss Florida’s black bass management plan with the FWC at our inaugural meeting. The FLFFC and its partners are faced with many issues, including access, habitat protection and water quality,” said Todd Kersey, FLFFC President. “We feel developing a plan to protect the most popular fish in Florida will go a long way in helping these issues and preserving the state’s title as “Fishing Capital of the World,” which is critical to Florida economy.”

The FWC’s Black Bass Management Plan will ultimately provide the blueprint to ensure Florida’s recognition as “The Bass Capital of the World,” said Darrell Scovell, FWC’s director of the Division of Freshwater Fisheries Management.

If you’re interested in representing a fishery-dependent business or organization or are an avid angler with time to commit to helping the coalition, please visit www.FLFFC.org to reserve a seat and to provide input and guidance to the FWC on this comprehensive and innovative new plan. During the afternoon session, FWC staff will host a round table forum to solicit stakeholders’ thoughts, reactions, ideas and suggestions to help craft the final draft that will be presented to FWC commissioners in December.

The public also may provide input at www.MyFWC.com/fishing. Sign up for the FWC’s stakeholder newsletter “FWC 4-1-1” by selecting “Contact FWC” and then “FWC 4-1-1” from the left-side pop up menu.

NASCAR Bass Fishing Tournament

Hot Rods and Reels Homestead Fishing Tournament

I hope you’ll join me in November for sport’s most uniquely personal experience, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation Hot Rods & Reels Charity Fishing Tournament during one of NASCAR’s most prestigious events – Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. You’ll have a rare opportunity to fish the speedway’s lake with a NASCAR driver, celebrity or team owner in a virtually one-on-one environment. Recent tournaments featured Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex, Ryan Newman, Daryl Waltrip, Richard Childress, Bobby Allison and many others. Each boat is limited to a fishing guide, NASCAR celebrity and two participants – you can’t get much closer or more personal than that!

For a $5,000 donation, you receive two seats in a boat, rod & reel combos, tackle and gift packs, get to mingle with NASCAR stars…AND have a chance to win the Miccosukee Million (as in $1,000,000!) if you catch the largest fish. All proceeds from my event, and its companion Hot Rods & Reels tournament at the Daytona 500 in February, benefit the Darrell Gwynn Foundation and Speediatrics Units at area hospitals. It’s a great experience for NASCAR fans, avid fishermen (and women) and corporate clients. I invite you to join me this year – click on the link below to learn how you can climb aboard the Hot Rods & Reels adventure.

October 18, 2009

I went out with Fort Lauderdale residents,  Max, Warner and Billy. We met early in the morning at BJ Bait & Tackle, with coffee in hand we cruised down to Miami for some fun with those hard fighting Peacock bass. It was short day that produced over fifteen fish. The young man Billy, was amazed at the large Iguanas on the banks. So much so, that he want to take one home for a pet….thankfully there much to fast to catch!

We look forward to taken them out again.

Till next time tight lines and good fishing….

MJK Group on Lake Toho in Orlando, Florida

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

MJK North America Inc. from Illinois visited Orlando, Florida for their annual convention.

This year instead of Golfing, they started a new tradition ” Weftec Fishing Tournament”.  The Group transferred by bus over to Lake Toho bright and early to compete for the biggest, the most individually caught and most TEAM weight for three fish.

Bob Langie AKA the” bass man “contacted us to arrange this Bass Fishing Adventure in Orlando.  The Group had six of Orlando’s Top notch bass fishing guides waiting with bass boats loaded with fishing gear & tackle, just ready to bring in the fish.

It was a gorgeous day, very warm with little cloud coverage typical October Florida day. Blue bird days makes it tough, but our guides got the job done. Put them on bass and well the rest was up to them to reel’em in!

The Group fished four hours with only keeping the largest three fish per boat at a time.  They were very competitive with each other, wanting to bring home the bragging rights and trophy. At 11:15am all boats had to be back for weighing in the fish.  These guys were hot and hungry and ready to show off their catch. After weighing all the bass on digital scales, “no mickey mouse stuff here.” The largest bass weighted in at 6.8 lbs.

After lunch we arranged an awesome lunch (subs, chips and desert) and lots of cold drinks. After a refreshing lunch, it was time for Bob’s award ceremony. All held under a pavilion at Kissimmee Park.

Captain Al Laman was the top guide for bring in the most total weight and landed the second biggest bass. Captain Rick Gibbs boat caught the biggest Fish.

It was a great group,  everyone boated fish except one person..oops. That’s only because the big one got away!

We welcome Groups to come enjoy a relaxing fishing excursion with us. Transportation can be arranged, great lunches, award ceremony and even arrange a tournament….and they think golf is competitive, wait till you experience this!

Till next time tight lines and good fishing….

My wife actually let Tony go 50 MPH on one straight section, she wanted to go faster but we ran out of room.

I asked tony how one goes about buying some hats or t-shirts can you help, can’t seem to find them on the website.

MIKE
