On-board with us, this last week of October was Dennis and his son Matthew from Houston Texas.
The first day of there fishing trip we start out on Lake Okeechobee, unexpectedly the bite slowed down so we decided to pull-out and head for the Everglades. The two were very excited to see just how good the Everglades could be.
The Everglades has really been dependable and it did not let us down this time. The O’Neils managed to catch 20 or more fish in just a few hours of fishing which lead to a fantastic finish for day one!
On day two we went to Miami for the exotic Peacock Bass. We started our morning off by throwing artificial baits but it really wasn’t that productive, so we went to pitching shiners and we started picking off the fish. We moved around to a couple of different areas and picked away at the fish, we also managed to catch a Snook. Which is always fun to watch the customers light up as the fish is dancing on top of the water.
By the end off the trip they caught over seventeen fish up to five pounds.
Till next time tight lines and good fishing….

 Florida Largemouth Black Bass
10/29/2009 – Biologists with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Fish and Wildlife Research Institute and the University of Florida need assistance with a statewide largemouth bass research study. This year-long project is an interactive way for the public to help biologists obtain critical information necessary to manage the largemouth bass fishery for quality and trophy-sized fish.
From this study, biologists hope to learn how frequently bass are caught and harvested. They also hope to learn more about the size range of fish caught.
Beginning this month, biologists are tagging largemouth bass with small, yellow tags along the back of the fish just below the dorsal fin. These tags carry a printed telephone number, e-mail address, tag number and reward value. Anglers should carefully examine all bass caught in Florida lakes for reward tags, as biologists will tag fish in numerous lakes throughout the state.
Biologists encourage anglers to remove these tags by cutting them as close to the fish as possible and then treat the fish as they would normally. Once anglers remove a tag, they should immediately report it to the FWC Angler Tag Return Hotline at 800-367-4461 or e-mail TagReturn [at] MyFWC [dot] com.
Anglers participating in the study will receive a reward for each largemouth bass tag they return to the FWC. When reporting the tag, anglers should provide the following information:
- the species of fish,
- tag number, fish length,
- date and time of capture,
- name of the lake where the fish was caught, and
- whether the angler kept or released the fish.
Anglers should mail the tags to:

Ronda and Ed McCoy from Wichita, Kansas came on-board for a bass fishing excursion of a life time.
The McCoy’s just wanted to catch one fish and if it weighed 10 pounds they would be satisfied. That’s a request we get a lot, unfortunately the fish don’t always agree with us!
When making there reservation the reservation office told the McCoy’s that a 10 pound bass was a tall order to complete, no matter what time of the year they fished. With the October moon behind us and the record heat index, not to mention the blue bird sky’s it makes for a very large order to fill. Ed said to them, “to catch a trophy, I was willing to take on anything.” We were quick to share with him a few of our secrets to doing so. First, you have to choose the right lake and right now it’s Lake Toho. He responded by saying, “let’s go Toho.”
The second secret was choosing the right fishing guide, there’s a lot of good guides on Lake Toho but only a hand full catch trophy bass consistently all year round and Captain John Leech is one of the best in the business. With out hesitation he responded, “Capt John’s my Man.”
I love trips like these, a great day on the water starts with making friends in the morning which was as easy as shaking hands when I picked them up at the Ramada Inn. We loaded the boat with big wild shiners and off to the BIG BASS waters we went. A little instructions at the beginning and let the fishing begin. They caught the first fish, the second fish, then another and another then the first 5 pounder hit. The next fish was 8 pounds, I think at this point Ed and Ronda were happy with the outcome. The next fish would prove to be the top bass of the day, weighting in at just over 10 pounds. They were no longer just happy, but simply loss for words ecstatic is more like it.
“This made the day for me,” replied Captain John. I also learned a few things, as a avid billiards player. Ed being a pro in the game, he shared a few tidbits to improve my pool game.
Overall a real great day for everyone!
Remember we have great “Specials for all Inclusive Packages” just let us know what you need.
We appreciate your business and look forward to fishing with you in the future.

October23, 2009 the Surette brothers from West Palm Beach and Michigan came fishing for some hard fishing Peacocks Bass.
With the record heat index, we decided on an afternoon trip on Lake Ida fishing for both largemouth bass and peacock bass. The Surette’s caught a few large-mouths along the way, but after catching the first peacock bass they really wanted to focus on them.
What a great decisions they made, as you can see in the photo above the quality of the peacock bass on this day were very good with the largest topping the scales at just over 7lb’s.
We had a great time catching peacocks and largemouths on one of Florida best and most convenient urban fisheries, Lake Ida.
Till next time tight lines and good fishing….
