Post Canadian looking for information on Bass fishing

I plan on visiting the Fort Myers area in February. I want to spend a few days fishing for largemouth, smallmouth or spotted bass. Does anyone have some information on where to fish off the bank. I will not have a boat. Also considering driving to Lake Okeechobee for a couple of days to fish and camp, i think you can camp there ? Any other lakes or ponds that would be good would be great if you could share them.

Thanks

Mr Mopar

Thanks for posting...here a few things to think about.
The Ft Myers area has a canal system and many local retention lakes, all have largemouth bass in them. Some, but not are available for public fishing. Rule of thumb to go by, if it's not posted...cast away!
Also, you will not find any smallmouth or spotted bass in the Ft Myers area, way to far South for those species.

Lake Okeechobee does have a lot camping available, pretty much all the way around the lake. Everything from KOA's to open camping sites. As for fishing access there is no access out in to the lake from the shoreline without a boat, there is the rim ditch and many feeder canals to fish from shore in several places around the lake. Closest to Ft Myers is the http://www.bassonline.com/florida-lakes/caloosahatchee-river/ that feed from Lake Okeechobee.

Hope this helps...enjoy and hook a big one!

Great thanks alot for the information.
I have been looking at the following locations as well.
Webb Lake - Punta Gorda
Lakes Regional Park
Kennedy Lake - Cape Coral
Lakes Park - Fort Myers
Ward Lake - Bradenton

Are these spots worth a visit ? or should I stick to the Caloosahatchee.

Thanks again.

All of those locations are great places to go, as your fishing these areas your going to run into other lakes as well. Remember in Florida, anything with water in it has the potential to give up a trophy!

Good luck and let us know how you do!
